Courtesy of Big Woodrow’s Big Woodrow’s in Houston In Houston, a bar known as Big Woodrow’s, whose logo is a fleur de lis melded with a longhorn, has become a favorite gathering place for former New Orleanians who have chosen to make Texas home but still feel nostalgic longings for the Crescent City. The bar, which serves up fresh “mudbugs,” or crawfish, along with cold beer, has long been popular with LSU football loyalists. Now it’s drawing new hordes of exuberant Saints fans, some of whom have been imploring the owners to start serving drinks at 6 a read the rest Saints Fans Find Second Home in Houston Bar After Katrina - The Daily Fix - WSJ |

Re: Article:Houston Who Dats ..I give you Woodrows
Wow. We Hou-Dats made the Wall Street Journal. Saints fans made Woodrows. Saints fans rule Houston. Some day the lame sportstalk stations here might recognize us too.
You know, the first time SuperDome and I got together thru my old board, there were four of us in our group. 2006. We wanted a home for what we knew would grow into a big, rowdy, money-spending bunch. We hopped around town, and quietly auditioned several bars, some which did make an admirable effort to hook us, others who gave a sh** less, even when I told them what we were doing. I actually told one guy, we'll call him Manager-X, "I have a potentially large group of very loyal fans who want to meet in one bar, watch the Saints, and spend money." He blew me off like I was selling Pet Rocks. I went to several other places, and was invisible to the waitstaff, or got excuses about tv's, menu items, cover charges, kid friendliness.... They looked at me like I was nobody. I AM nobody. But we have lots of somebody friends who carry cash. Our group grew to about 12, and we voted on Woodrows. Back when the Saints started 0-4, there were about 15 of us upstairs at Woodrows. Seahawks game. They took good care of us, and we had a good time, and the Saints began a 4 game winning streak. Flash forward-- Cardinals playoff game this year-- about 250 people in one bar. They may have packed 300? They ran out of places to park. All Saints fans. We didnt bring all these people in, just so you know. Woodrows already attracted some Saints fans, I believe. But you know, when there were 12 of us, we had a blast together. Again, we dont claim to have brought all these people in, as most found the place on their own. But everyone who ever came in and met us, walked away saying, "That is one crazy group of WhoDats. This is where I want to watch the game from now on." I think they need an extra building now. It must SUCK to be Manager-X. I remember being told by one guy the Saints didnt have any fans left. Supposedly a storm killed us all, and the team was moving. Three things you can do if you're in business. Treat people like they're somebody. Think. Hustle. This is your business lesson for today. This was all SuperDome's idea, but Im the loudmouth in the group, so I guess thats why a 20-something girl walked over to me last time & asked if there were more chairs. "Oh, Honey, I dont work here, Im sorry." "Yeah, but arent you the Leader?" I guess climbing over our table to Bang Tha Wall (ala the top of the Superdome) makes one a "leader." -hahaha. Im barely tall enough to be seen in a crowd. By the way, the manager of Woodrows emailed me and Dome, and wanted your requests for Sunday, if you have any. If you live anywhere near Houston, please go to our Houston Thread, and keep up to date with other area fans: http://blackandgold.com/saints/22030...eak-up-18.html If you are somewhere else, like Beaumont, or Baytown, or just some part of town, wcontact me, and I'll tell you how we got our Saints party started over here. We WhoDats should represent all over SE Texas. |

Htown is all right. I've lived there a couple of times for as short a time as possible. Too much traffic for my taste. Ya'll talk funny too, but I like rednecks because they all have trucks. I met no less than 946 Boomhauer's while residing in Upper Mexico and still have no idea what any of them said to me. |
