Sunday will mark a boyhood dream coming true. I am thirty years old and have been watching the New Orleans Saints play football since as long as I can remember. Chances are that my father had me sitting in front of the television during my newborn days as well so my deeper memories probably stretch further back. But since the moment I can recall being able to pay enough attention to what was happening on the field, my dream was to see the Saints in the Super Bowl.
Sunday, February 7, 2010 in Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida...that dream will finally come true. Now the Saints actually being able to take down the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV and bring home the Lombardi Trophy is a completely different dream in its own respect. The time winding down and Drew Brees possibly lining up in the victory formation is not even something that my mind can begin to fathom. To be honest with you, I really don't want to even imagine it. That is one of numerous visuals that needs to be something I'd like fresh and without prior images of. The emotions that have been filling up inside of me ever since Garrett Hartley's kick sailed through the uprights in the NFC Championship game...they just can't be described. Every ounce of excitement that has been bubbling in my heart, mind, and soul when the football hit that "fleur-de-#%^#&-lis" right in the middle of the goal posts...cannot even be explained.
