Right here. And it was a 5th AND a 7th in a draft that we only had 4 picks.

Still wasn't a smart move in my opinion. He's a punter, the least important position on a football team.

At least he looks like he'll be a good one though.

Glad we got him, but we paid too much.

It is least important to pin dangerous punt returners in the corner of the field? Time after time after time? The VyQueens are still whining about that.

I disagree. Special teams is a full third of the game and truly important.
That is new school mentality. That is why Coach Payton is so hot for kickers.

If this season didn't teach ya that, you may just not get it.

I have to agree with Vilma here. I don't think he gets enough credit for his management of the defense. We all know an injury to Brees would be devastating, but I think an injury to Vilma would be almost as bad. He is truly the "QB" of the defense. We were lucky he stayed healthy all year.

And that was a hell of a job keeping up with a WR in deep coverage.

My mom and I have dubbed him Garrett Heart-ley and we draw a heart with our fingers when we say it! ;)

I have nothing but praise for Vilma.

Goodness gracious I hope that guy retires a Saint.

I agree with everyone who was mentioned. I really thought of Henderson because I thought he did a great job picking up 3rd downs. One guy who didn't get mentioned was Greer. The guy came out and immediately we gave up a 20 yard TD pass on his side of the field. He also made a nice play on the colts last drive to draw an offensive pass interference and push them back 10 yards. So I'll give Greer a shout out for unsung hero

Good call on DH...he made some clutch catches for us.

That is still just so strange to see. I still boggle at how much "Stone Hands" has improved.

C'mon, Danno...we won the SB. It must have been the right move...no? BTW...do you remember pressing me for my prediction for the year?

heres the thing.....we have 53 players on the active roster......some of those players dont see any playing time at all

obviously the punter is not the least important because he is on the field anywhere from 5 to 10 times every game.....not to mention our punter has kickoff duty

a punter that can put the ball anywhere on the field from anywhere on the field is priceless.....you say we paid too much, i say we stole him with only 2 picks

back to the thread.......i have 2 picks for hero of the game.....first of all, jabari greer. dude shut down reggie wayne the entire game. shut down pierre garcon on every play he was in. the only TD pass against us all game was when jabari greer was out of the game. Tracy porter is going to get a lot of praise this next season but jabari greer is our best corner

my next pick is Jon Stinchcomb. All we heard all week was how jermon bushrod is going to stack up against dwight freeney. well robert mathis was arguably a more dangerous player in the super bowl because of the injury. and mathis did all of what? i'll save you the trouble. mathis had 0 tackles

also when we were stuffed at the goalline twice in a row on 3rd and 4th down, stinch was the only lineman to hold his blocks. streif, shockey, and evans all choked when it came down to the goalline. stinch got his block and got down to the ground like you are supposed to so the RB can jump over you if need be

Tracy Porter gets my vote because without him, arguably, we wouldn't be in the Super Bowl (INT on Favre) and he pretty much sealed it again with the pick on Manning. Honorable mention goes to Hartley because kickers have been so inconsistent this year and he really stepped up and kept hope on our side in the Super Bowl.

Re: Your un sung hero of the super bowl?

Bill Parcells

WTF?

Yes Bill Parcells; here's the thing...

Parcells preaches that football boils down to offense, defense, AND SPECIAL TEAMS...

Coach Payton is from the House of Parcells Coaching Lineage; he puts in AMBUSH and tells the team that the Rookie punter WILL make one onside kick, and in a Larry Bird moment tells the Referees that not if but the Saints will be kicking an onside kick; the lessons learned from the '06 NFC Championship game to get a reliable kicker...

Morstead, Hartley, Roby, Bush, et cetera...

So I sum up the special teams as the difference as this...

Bill Parcells, Thank You Tuna...

Didn't you refused to predict or speculate on anything?

Were you one of the ones who said "we're 8-8 until we prove otherwise"?

I didn't want to predict, but you pressed me...I can't remember exactly how it went down...but when pressed, I said we'd go 11-5, beating the Giants in the NFCCG, having people in NY re-evaluating their stance on Eli, and go on and beat the Pats to win the SB.

I got the SB win part right, and making people doubt a Manning...only it was Peyton and not Eli. They got people doubting Eli much sooner than I expected. :)

Hargrove is an inspiration to the team and embodies the fight the city has gone through... Also he gets good pressure up the middle when we need it.
