Your un sung hero of the super bowl?

Garrett Hartley

He gets my vote.

2nd Quarter

3rd Quarter

One mis this team may have defatted. Nah I doubt it but 3 field goals over 40 in the super bowl is huge. He kept us in the game.

The offensive line. They didn't get off to a good start, particularly Bushrod, but as the game wore on, they allowed Drew to get more comfortable to do what he does.

The combined efforts of Hartley and Morstead. BTW...where are all the people complaining about that 5th rd. draft pick?

Hartley, andGreg Wiliams who kept us in the game the whole night.

Re: Your un sung hereo of the super bowl?

I am proud of then all, but Hartley, for his age and experience level, was right down the middle all night! Very impressed with him! He didn't get rattled, did he? Also proud of our linemen who kept Drew safe almost all night.....they did a great job! Just everyone!

Re: Your un sung hereo of the super bowl?

I agree. I made that point last night. Garret Hartley is a big reason we won that game. Without his 40+ yard kicks, we just don't have the momentum to stay in the game. I'm not saying the game is lost, but man how big were those kicks he made?
Garret Hartley...on my list of all time Saints heros.

Yo for sure, but I also thought MJ had a couple of pretty good plays too. Vilma was out of this world too. I thought Roby made a few good plays too!!

Re: Your un sung hereo of the super bowl?

I have to say it was Colston.. after the DROP he could have went into a shell, but he went all out...

Re: Your un sung hereo of the super bowl?

Scott Shanle shut down Dallas Clark for most of the second half. He had some issues in the early going, but I thought he did a great job. That was a huge difference in my opinion.

Choupique 02-08-2010 08:54 AM

Re: Your un sung hereo of the super bowl?

In no particular order, Brunell, Fujita, Shanle, Lance Moore, Ellis, Reis.

The kicker don't make those kicks without his long snapper and holder.

Re: Your un sung hereo of the super bowl?

Mine is Devery Henderson. Seven targets, seven catches. His numbers weren't staggering, but he made every catch thrown his direction and kept the chains moving. This is not the same Devery from two years ago. He has definitely matured into a clutch receiver and not just a deep threat.

Re: Your un sung hereo of the super bowl?

Unsung you say. Cuts out the obvious, obviously.

So I go for.......... Jermon Bushrod!!!
Yep, he needed help but Freeney gets one tackle all night. And special mention for Jonathan Stinchcomb on the other side who I THINK kept Mathis to a big fat doughnut, nada, zit. And these guys allows the not unsung Pass Master, Lord of Offense, Drew Brees all he needs to get the job done.

Ask me again later. I will probably say someone else. It was that sort of performance the New Orleans Saints :bng:

Absolutely...It's really hard to pick just one. All of our guys played their hearts out to bring home the Lombardi.

Re: Your un sung hereo of the super bowl?

All fantastic picks, but mine is pierre thomas, yes he got stood up at the line, but he gave us some momentum after that screen TD. Whenever he had the ball in his hands, he broke atleast two tackles, never gave up fought hard.

Re: Your un sung hereo of the super bowl?

I agree UK, BUSHROD

He had the toughest assignment and had only one fault. Stupendous effort.

Re: Your un sung hereo of the super bowl?

Lance Moore. The 2 point conversion was huge!

Re: Your un sung hereo of the super bowl?

Greg Williams...fantastic game plan. He/They held Manning to 10 in the first half and then ONLY 7 the whole 2nd half. Porter hiding in the high grass was a Greg Williams thing - BEAUTIFUL! They gave up some things but his overall plan worked to perfection.

And let's not forget Goodie! Keep us steady and moving all night long! No foul-ups or miscommunications. Gave Drew time! Way to go, Jonathan!

Re: Your un sung hereo of the super bowl?

David Thomas- helped with Freeney, made a few catches. Quiet, but great

Re: Your un sung hereo of the super bowl?

One player I definitely have to give major props to is Malcolm Jenkins. He seemed to do very well in passes thrown where he was covering and made some solid tackles. He also had that one pass deflection on a pass (can't remember if it was to Garcon or Wayne) where if he stayed on his feet a split second longer he would have intercepted it.

Re: Your un sung hero of the super bowl?

Anyone catching a pass in that game.

After Colston's uncharacteristic turn the head and run before the catch play he was money all night. My favorite was the catch going out of bounds with the CB all up in his grill and he just vice-gripped that ball, even 5 yds out of bounds he had a death grip on that thing.

Devery was finding the sticks all night and getting open, he beat their secondary like a redheaded stepchild

Shockey caught the ball when it came his way and sucked up alot of coverage getting other guys open all night.

Moore made the clutch 2 pt conversion catch that in my mind made Peyton sort of rush that drive where Porter "pick6ed" the pass. Had they been only down 5 and able to take the lead with a TD I think Indy would have been more even tempo'd on that drive and would have been grinding out the clock. I think that urge to score quickly was Peyton's downfall in that drive.

Roby did a great job on punt and kick coverage

O-Line Game ball. Hartley, Bushrod, Moore, This a tough one, Hartley I'll say Hartley

Srgt. Hulka 02-08-2010 09:30 PM

Re: Your un sung hero of the super bowl?

He didn't play much, he didn't have great numbers, and I know I've already said Hartley, but I just want to say that I sure am glad Jeremy Shockey got his touchdown. I think he needed a Superbowl ball for his trophy case as much as any one on that team. I don't think we would have gotten as far as we did this season without him.

+1 more on the kicker fan wagon.

Think about the Vikings game. How many kick or punt returns did the purple people have?

Next to nada? Heck, all season LONG the kicking team really has done quite well... THANKS COACH!

Not to mention Super Bowl kicking records. Nice.
The interception will also go down in the history books... 4th longest? I think? Maybe 5th?

Booooya.

If I'm not mistaken, it was 3rd longest, but I could be wrong. If it is 3rd longest, it just makes it all the more sweeter.

That's it right there - knew he had to solidify that aspect of the team and he did it in the very next draft.

Those two reaffirmed their value during the Superbowl.

I think VIlma deserves a lot of credit also. He is the QB of that defense & he made a lot of the descisions that led to some good plays & he made a good number of tackles as well.

I always put him in the "given" category.

That dude plays at 175% while everyone else is at 100% and maybe 110%
http://www.mkrob.com/wp-content/uplo...9/10/vilma.jpg

One play he covered deep was amazing. Most LBs could have never pulled that off.

Goodness gracious I hope they keep him around a long time.
Don't make the same mistake the Jets made!

No, no, no, no. Courtney Roby was all-out, all game. He was getting good returns, giving great coverage on kicks, downing kicks deep, tackling his ass off. That boy was going more than 110% He really stood out to me, especially early in the game when everyone else was still a little jittery Roby was focused and on his game.

Not taking anything away from Vilma, but Roby showed what he is made of. And he is made of WIN!

Re: Your un sung hero of the super bowl?

hartly surely gets the mvp in my book also but p. thomas is also a hero in that win, hes our most complete back we have, hes so solid. hes going to get that 1000 yard season sooner than we think. he needs a little more luck to stay healty and hes going to get that mvp one year, i feel it.
