When did you think this Saints team was for real

Before the Lions game, who thought this team would start out 13-0, much less win the Super Bowl?

I was very confident going into the 2008 season, mainly because of the additions of Ellis and Shockey. I thought the offense was too good and could overcome the problems on defense. I was stunned at how many games the Saints blew last year, games that they should have won.

I was pumped when Williams took over the defense, but thought it would take him time to work his magic. I figured he would have everything turned around in his second season. Looking at our schedule before the season, I was concerned about going up against the NFC and AFC East divisions. I thought the Saints would have a winning season and make the playoffs, but never dreamed they would win the Super Bowl. I mean, I always dreamed about them winning Super Bowl, but trying to be objective, I didn't think this would be the year.

We destroyed the Lions, but they are a chump team. I loved how our defense stepped up against the Eagles, but they were without McNabb. I got really excited when we beat the Bills and Jets. Then came the stomping of the Giants. I wanted to believe this was the year it all came together, but I also wanted to see if the team could rally from behind. The Dolphins game was what clinched it for me. It showed me that the team had a lot of fight in them, and if one guy wasn't pulling his share, others would take up the slack to do what it took to win.

I've laughed, cried, shouted for joy, cried, laughed, and shouted for joy in an endless cycle since Porter ran that pick back last night. We witnessed an unbelievably good team this season, and I can't stress the word "team" enough. Who would have thought that Shanle would have the kind of postseason that he had, or that our offense line would provide Drew with almost airtight protection, or that Mike Bell would carry the load when Pierre Thomas was hurt, or that Greer and Porter would turn out to be the best tandem in the NFL. Thank you Mickey Loomis and Sean Payton for putting the pieces together to bring a Super Bowl title to New Orleans.
