I was the reason we won!!
We all have our superstitions.
I have worn three strands of beads throughout the playoffs. Two of them were ornate black and gold with multiple fleur de lis that I had picked up at a Bourbon Street shop the morning of the Cardinals Divisional round game. The third was a cheap gold strand that someone threw me while my wife and I were walking to the Superdome later that day. Just a couple of minutes prior to the player introductions last night my finger caught the strand of cheap tossed beads and it broke. I freaked out for a second. Then I quickly ran to the kitchen and found a twist tie and began trying to repair the strand. My wife was yelling at me from the other room, "Where are you? You're missing the introductions! The Saints are coming out right now!" She didn't realize I had a higher mission to perform at the time. I fumbled a couple of times, but finally got the repair to hold. When I got back into the room and sat on my carefully positioned ottoman (my traditional viewing point), I showed my wife the mended beads and explained what happened. She asked me why I simply didn't go get another strand just like them (we have many years worth of Mardi Gras booty) and wear that instead. I thought for a second that I probably was being silly and a replacement string would surely be okay. As I got up to go find said strand my wife grabbed my arm. She had a seriously concerned look on her face and stated, "No. You better just wear those." What could I say? I learned many, many years ago that she is always right. I agreed and resumed the position just in time to watch the coin flip. There was no doubt the coin would end up resting on that field with the Lombardi Trophy side facing heads up. I was wearing the special beads. |

Re: I was the reason we won!!
My little girl had a part in it also. My wife, my 8-year-old daughter and I were watching the game. The Saints were down by 10 points. I looked at my little girl and she did not have her Drew Brees jersey on. I told her she needed to get in on...now. As soon as she put her Jersey on, the game changed around and was all Saints after that. Hooray for you Guido, Hooray for My little girl Allison, and hooray for all of you fans who made their superstitious adjustments. But most of all, hooray for Brees, Hartley, Sean Peyton, Bush, Porter, Shockey...everybody who has played on this team this year and for the past 35 years!

Re: I was the reason we won!!
My wife (Cowboys fan, I still love her), started to ease under my Saints throw blanket with me...oh no (I thought to myself). Before she could even fix the blanket straight, Colston drops that drive sustaining middler. I jump up and scream, taking the blanket with me and (in my mind) try to figure out how to set all the stars back in alignment and not be in the dog house. It so happens I frightened my 3 year old when I jumped up. She runs and jumps into my wifes lap not knowing whats going on with dad. I see the light. My daughter always climbs under the blanket with me when the Saints are on...not my wife. I sit back down, beckon Madison to come climb under the blanket with me (no room for the wife now)...all is well with the world. It takes a few minutes for all of the constellations to re-align and for the universe to settle back to equallibrium but it finally does. The wifes gets her own comfy little throw and the Saints get back to the business of claiming a championship with honors. Another catastrophy averted. You are all quite welcome.

Give that little girl a hug from me, from blackandgold.com, and the Whole WHO-DAT Nation! We can never repay her for the deed she has done.

Funny we all did our part in our own way, it is amazing how "Superstitious" we are. Warren Sapp said it the best on the NFL show "The Saints have destiny on their side"

Re: I was the reason we won!!
Ok, well here's my two cents....my sister in Baton Rouge and I are texting back and forth like crazy. Things not looking so good. My next text to her is simply this: "Miracle time!" We score a TD on the next play! She texts back "Amen, sister!" And we're homefree from there!

Re: I was the reason we won!!
All good stories...and I'd like to take credit in some way...like I had on my new Brees jersey that my son gave me for my BD and I wore for the last 2 games...but the person we should all be thankful to, IMO, is....
