Offseason Moves

Hey guys. I'm new to this board, but I have been posting on espn.com for about 2 years. Just wanted to get some feedback on the offseason.
Free Agents to keep:

Remi Ayodele, RFA - Young DT, could develop into a good run stopper. Tender him at a 4th or 5th. He he gets picked up, at least we have a pick for him.

Jamaal Brown, RFA
- Tender him at a 1st. If anyone takes him, we still have Bushrod.

Jermon Bushrod, RFA
- Same thing as Brown.

Jhari Evans, RFA
- Need to keep this guy at all costs.

Anthony Hargrove, RFA
- Solid DT, very good upside.

Roman Harper, RFA
- Probowl safety. Vaughn could possibly be a replacement, but he was hurt last year (rookie). He was highly taughted, however, as a fast, aggressive safety (just like Harper).

Billy Miller, UFA
- If he will sign for less, I say keep him. Good emotional leader, veteran TE with solid hands.

Marvin Mitchell, RFA
- Good special teams guy, and he is young. Tender at a 5th.

Lance Moore, RFA - Big catch in the Superbowl. He is the best rout runner on our team, and he is the reserve punt returner.

Chris Reis, RFA
- Another big special teams guy. 5th round tender.

Courtney Roby, RFA
- Good return guy. Very good on kick/punt coverage, solid tackler.

*Darren Sharper, UFA*
- Here is the problem. If he will sign for a decent price, we keep him. If he wants a 3 year, 15-20 mill. contract, I say we have to let him walk. He is very good, but he is getting old and was limited during practice a lot this year.

Zach Streif, RFA
- Good backup. 4th round tender.

Pierre Thomas, RFA
- We need to keep this guy. Hopefully he doesn't want to take us to the bank. He is a big key to what we do.

David Thomas, RFA
- Very good back up TE. He also plays FB. He is a key to our offense IMO.

Usama Young, RFA - Good special teamer with good upside. He made the switch from CB to FS this year. Played for Sharper one game this year against the Rams and got an interception.

Free agents to release:

Mike Bell, RFA - He is just not that good... Easily replaceable.

Mark Brunell, UFA
- Too old, too overpaid. Chase Daniel will take over as Brees' understudy.

Dan Campbell, UFA - Hurt all year, too old.

Jeff Charleston, RFA
- Not enough speed or strength. Will never be more than a back up.

Kendrick Clancy, UFA
- Too old/injury prone.

Darnell Dinkins, UFA - Too old, only good for blocking.

Scott Fujita, UFA
- I think we will use a 1st or 2nd on his replecement. Stanley Arnoux (rookie, injured in training camp) could be another possible replacement.

Nick Leckey, UFA
- Signed off of practice squad...not too much potential.

Pierson Prioleau, UFA
- Played well on special teams. I'm afraid he will want a little too much for his services, however. If he doesn't demand to much $, I say keep him.

Leigh Torrance, RFA
- Going to be 29 next year. We can find another younger, cheaper 5th string CB than him...one who contributes more on special teams.

Re: Offseason Moves

Leave that up to greater minds, do I.
Experts at such endeavors, Coach Payton & the staff is.

What we estimate will occur is meaningless, but fun to talk about... granted.
Welcome to the forum.

Re: Offseason Moves

But his wage becomes borderline ridiculous next year. He is possibly cut for that reason alone or begged to renegotiate.

Re: Offseason Moves

OT is a big issue. do we really have 3 solid OT? hmmm something has to give soounds like one to many to me.
DT is an are to address. Right now Clancy out for the year showed how thin we are. Something has to be done.
SLB - who will replace Scott? He stays. We are loaded with WLB and no real SLB to work with
These are the spots that jump out at me

Re: Offseason Moves

I'm still curious to see what Chip Vaughn and Stanley Arnoux bring to the table, provided they are healthy. As far as free agency and the draft, I'm putting my trust in the front office to make the moves necessary to take this team to the Promised Land once again. There are several that I would like to see stay in New Orleans, but there are several that can definitely be replaced. I'm sure Loomis, Payton, and the rest of the front office and coaches will do a great job in solidifying this team for next year.

Re: Offseason Moves

The Super Bowl win is great for us, the team, the organization and the N.O. But the down side of it is next year everybody wants to get paid. I think this is what the team needs to do to be sucessful once again:

We managed to get plenty of turnovers on defense which really masked our holes on Defense. Get rid of Grant, he's overpaid and just doesnt produce like he should. Draft a DE to replace him. Get rid of Shanle and Fujita. We need beast SLB and WLB to go with the monster in the middle in Vilma. We also need a monster to go along side Sed Ellis. We need to stop the run next year. Get a better nickle to replace Gay. He needs to go too. Other than that we are set in the Secondary. As long as we dont let Sharper walk. We need him back there and the organization knows that. The book is out on us and we wont last long next year if we dont address our weaknesses on D.

On offense we need to get rid of Brees! I'm kidding..lol. Offense we need to work on the O-Line. And dont get rid of Reggie. I know he is overpaid but he is a big play waiting to happen. Yes I cringe everytime he gets the ball but I would hate to see him in another uniform killing defenses.

Re: Offseason Moves

Fujita isn't going anywhere. He will restructure. ESPN was reporting on this. Usama can go. He didn't impress. Jenkins came in late and got 2 knockdowns. Usama got in for one play and got turned around for a TD. ...and that was just last night.
