Saints draft: Jared Odrick

6'5" 300 pound DT, Penn State....

Ok, depending on the combine of course, this kid looks like a perfect fit for our defense. With his size, and speed, I could certainly see him playing both DT, and DE positions, which in my mind puts him in the same category as a Justin Tuck, of the New York Giants.

It is definately possible for him to be available at the number 32 spot, and it would fit a glaring need for us in the middle. Pair this beast along with Ellis in the middle, and I see our rushing defense going into the top five next year.

I agree that an OLB, would also be a good first pick, but I think if we get this guy, we can create more pressure up front, which will give our LBs, more room to make big plays. Even more, if that's at all possible.

Someone else mentioned this guy earlier. Canton maybe?

Re: Saints draft: Jared Odrick

a few mocks that ive looked at have us taking this kid

im not opposed to it as much as i am hoping we draft terrence cody instead

i like odrick.....hes huge....his 6'5" frame is something you just dont see very often in DTs and he is heavy enough to play the interior......and like you said....his height would allow him to maybe play outside when we go with 3 down linemen

the only issue i have with this is his height however......being that he is 6'5" it means that he has to work that much harder to get low coming off the ball

in simple football lingo....the low man wins......a guy that is 6'5" has a lot more lowering to do than a DT that is 6'1" or 6'2" like ellis

his height also means that his 300 lbs isnt compacted as much as a shorter DT......

in essence.....it means hes too tall for his own position

id love to see him at 320 or 330 but that would mean putting on a little blubber weight

other than that.....the kid is an absolute stud and going against big 10 offensive linemen isnt an easy task....he did it on a regular basis with a lot of success

Re: Saints draft: Jared Odrick

I thought he would show more than he did at the senior bowl. From what I saw Odrick seems more like a DE in a 3-4 defense. And there are better all around DEs in this draft.

I highly doubt that Mount Cody will be available at #32 and I see a few really high quality DEs, LBs and O-Lineman falling. In my opinion, I would prefer one of the nasty DEs like an Everson Griffen and if a LB like Weatherspoon falls it is game over take him with the pick.

I still wouldn't be surprised by a pick like Selvish Capers or Ciron Black.

One thing I learned from drinking. You should always go Christmas caroling with a group. Oh, and always in mid-December.

Re: Saints draft: Jared Odrick

I've read a few articles that have Odrick falling to us and us taking him with our first pick. But like Canton said his height could be a detriment in the pros, however like the article said he did well against quality competition. I would like us to take a D lineman first then OLB. Those to me are the weak links on defense right now. I had hoped to bring in a good FA but that doesn't look probable with the CBA where it is now.
