Charles Grant's trade value?

Does he have any?

I'm guessing, in the words of the great Jim Mora...

Re: Charles Grant's trade value?

we could trade him for a buffalo

they both are about the same size and would probably do about the same amount of football related stuff as well as recreational activities such as eating and sleeping

fair trade but idk if colorado can manage without any more buffalo

one thing i do know.....buffalo sure do got some tasty wings

Re: Charles Grant's trade value?

If the salary wasn't in consideration I'm sure someone would bite. It being an uncapped year could help in that regard.

A buffalo would make a good DE. Just have to train the buffalo to run in a certain direction.

I am reminded of the movie Slapshot, on this question. I said it earlier, that I believe we might be able to get a decent washing machine for him.

Or was it Semi-Pro? Damn memory......

Re: Charles Grant's trade value?

OK...I got one I was thinking about the other day. I know you've heard the old question, "If a tree falls in the woods with nobody around...does it make a noise?"

Well, along those lines..."If you fart in a room and leave...does it still smell?" Just shows you how much free time I have on my hands. Then, for thinking about it...and now, for telling about it.

For the record, however...I have to claim credit for one of the skits that Larry the cable guy stole from me.

I was working in a CT trailer one night at around 3 a.m. I had been all alone in that trailer for at least 4 hours, and the urge to pass wind came across me. Naturally, being alone, I didn't hesitate. Not 30 seconds later, just long enough for it to engulf the whole room, a nurse from ER sticks her head in to check to see if I'm OK...a move that the look on her face told me she regretted.

Several years earlier, the same thing happened in a conference room when everybody had left for a 15 minute break. Again, after about 30 seconds had passed, a secretary sticks her head in the door looking for one of the guys to deliver a message. That was the first time I got to witness that prune expression.

After the 2nd occurrence, I told one of my friends my "fart theory". I told him, "Fart and they will come."

He told me a few weeks later that he told his wife about my theory...and then a few days later when he entered the room where his wife was reading, she looked up and said, "His theory was correct."

Re: Charles Grant's trade value?

I completely agree with that theory LB, from my own experiments.

There's another one too, that any smokers here will agree with. Ever notice that when you are trying to light a cigarrette while driving, that every red light turns green? Same goes when you are trying to text message.

Yes...and how about when you are late for a plane it is always on time, and when you are on time it is always late.

Talking about those cigarettes reminds me of the time my wife and I were driving up I-15 near Temecula in SoCal. I went to roll my window up, and hit the up button for the passenger window by mistake. The next thing I hear is a blood-curdling scream.

My first thought was I was about to die because my wife saw some semi about to plow into us or something, but then I realize that I rolled the wrong window up and she has her fingers caught. Then, to add insult to injury, I try to roll the window down and I hit up instead of down. That was about 7 years ago and she is just now starting to talk to me a little.

Funny stuff LB. Or how about going to the supermarket hungry, and buying everything in the store, but when you aren't you have no idea what you want.

Agreed, trade value is more than likely nil

I don't know how much trade value he has but there is always someone who thinks they can recycle trash and make something beautiful. It is possible someone will want him for a reduced price.

Send him to Cincinatti. Marvin Lewis LOVES people who have past run-ins with the law.

Are you saying you think we should keep Grant? The guy is getting paid an unbelievable amount of money for spotty play. Sometimes looks great, most of the time, looks like he's exhausted.

really? dont hate us because we have an opinion......i love everything saints including our players that stink but if we had a chance to make our team better i would love to take advantage of that opportunity

getting rid of players doesnt make a team better, but getting something in return for certain players would be great even if those players or picks would be projects

charles grant has had over 3 years to prove his worth to this team....sure he is often injured and of course he is replaced on 3rd downs in favor of mccray

but you cant have a DE make that much money and only contribute to 1 phase of the game......grant is probably our best run stopping DE and it was evident that he was missed in the playoffs but will smith is also a good run stopping DE yet manages to accumulate pro bowl numbers on a regular basis

grant isnt playing up to his contract

we cant expect everyone to play at an all pro level, but we can expect them to live up to their own expectations and grant isnt doing that

Re: Charles Grant's trade value?

Can we just take all of our current active starters to a DNA Cloning facility and replicate them, freeze them until the current group ages into retirement, then thaw out their clones and start all over again?

hagan714 02-17-2010 07:11 AM

Re: Charles Grant's trade value?

why do people think a strong side DE has to put up the numbers of the weakside DE? It just does not work that way. Two different postions all together.

Grant deals with the TE chip shots all game long. Smith get the RB after he beats the OT. I would take a RB over a TE all day long.

look at our run defense with Clancy and Grant vs without. Two different worlds.

Not that I like his salary or do I think he worth it. I just think these points are over looked.

Grants value is in moving around in the draft vs. straight out pick value. Salary kinda kills it.

Also gonna be very tough to move with that Starcaps issue still looming. When does his contract expire?

SaintPauly 02-17-2010 03:10 PM

Re: Charles Grant's trade value?

You know something no one else has brought up, is there is still a possibillity, however slight,
that a new CBA could be met before the deadline. The date is march 31st I believe. It wouldn't
effect Grant, but would effect a lot of other players on our roster.

Edit: March 5th. Still possible.

Re: Charles Grant's trade value?

Worth nothing! A huge cap hit, he will miss 4 games and he is avg. Cut him, take the hit and draft the future in rd 1.

If I have to explain to you folks what Grant has done for us during his tenure my first question would be how long have you been a Saints fan?

I'm more loyal to our players than some of you. I'm not a what have you done for me lately kind of guy.

He is going into his ninth season? He is at the end of his career.
Some of us recall what you've done, Charles Grant. Thanks.

BUT back to the original post.

He might have some - Maybe a third or fourth round pick??

Whoa, whoa, WHOA! Hold the phone there, chief! Seriously? Did you just question the fanhood of everyone who has a personal opinion of Charles Grant? Just because people think it is time to move on from him doesn't make you more "loyal" as you put it. You aren't at liberty to explain anything to anyone on here with that condescending tone. What are the terms you like to throw around here so frequently? D-bag? Tool-bag? Questioning anyone's fanhood on here is just as much of a d-bag or tool-bag move. Just because you like Grant doesn't mean we have to bow down to you because you think he's great. Newsflash! He isn't. Not anymore.

Charles Grant was good his first three years, had a couple of years with 60+ tackles after that, and has fell off the map ever since. He has done absolutely nothing the last three years. He hasn't even averaged 5 sacks a season over the last five years. He's barely averaged over 40 tackles a season the last three. He's 32 years old, out-of-shape, and hasn't even come close to playing well since he signed that fat contract. The Saints need to cut their losses and let him go as fast he stole money from the team when he signed on the dotted line. The proof is in the pudding.

To answer your question of how long I've been a fan, it's been 24 years. It doesn't matter how long someone has been a fan. It isn't a "what have you done for me lately" attitude if the player hasn't done anything worthwhile in past five years. There is no need for you to be condescending to people in this forum just because they don't agree with you.

He would be worth a 5th but who would be willing to give it? Huge cap hit if they trade for him. Why not just wait till we relase him and sign him for half the price. McCray is just as good and cost us 3mil + a year less.

This^

Great teams would have let him go long ago.

You don't remain a Dynasty by being loyal to players who no longer pull their weight.

In fact, if I had to comment on the absurd "TRUE FAN" nonsense, I'd say a TRUE Saints fan is the one who can put his personal feelings about a player to the side for the good of the team moving forward.

My loyalty is to that Black and Gold Jersey, not the guy who wore it last year, or the year before.

Does Grant at his salary make our SAINTS a better team in 2010? Or would replacing Grant's enormous salary with a better player make the SAINTS a better team in 2010.

A TRUE SAINTS fan wants what's best for the team moving forward. Grant has been paid a King's ransom for his services, so I'm perfectly OK with the next great thing to come along. Thanks for all you've done Chuck, enjoy your life as a bazillionaire ex-Saint.

After watching the playoffs I'd argue that McCray is the better defensive end. The guy wrecked Warner and you know that Favre "remembers" him.
