Sharper puzzled by Saints' decision to let him test free-agent market

I'm going to play devils advocate (what a surprise) and pose this:

Sharper's just got a brand new ring.
he's reasonably healthy.
he's got 2 years left in the tank.
Likelihood of Saints repeating is 15%
He took a "haircut" to sign with the Saints originally
He's a near lock for HOF

Now, Sharper thinks he deserves (with some great deal of supporting logic based on performance) that he should be maxing out his comp for that duration. He did indicate that he would take a reasonable offer from the Saints as long as it was somewhat commensurate with what Pro Bowl safeties were getting (2.5-4 million).

I'd be upset with the Saints, too.

I'm really puzzled by this entire subject. Uncapped year, pay the man! He earned it. He played his butt off for this club, and deserves at least two more years with the team, if not four. He EARNED it. I reallize that this is a foreign concept in the league these days, but that doesn't mean it's extinct.
