Saints Tender G Jahri Evans

The agent for Saints Pro Bowl guard Jahri Evans tells FOX 8 Sports, the Saints have tendered his client.

Evans’ agent Jerrold Colton confirmed Evans was tendered although would not say at what level.

Colton would not confirm an espn.com report that the Saints and Evans are getting close to a long term deal.

“Both sides would love to reach a deal long term,” Colton said. “But no deal is imminent.”

Evans is coming off a career year where he was named to his 1st Pro Bowl.

As a tendered restricted free agent, the Saints would have the right to match any offer.

Depending on the level of tender, the Saints would receive draft choices if Evans were to sign with another team.

The Saints have not commented on the report.

You have to figure it's the highest level tender and that the long term plan is a long term deal

I'd take the first and third for Brown, but not Evans

The Saints have extended a first- and third-round tender to restricted free agent RG Jahri Evans.

The sides are working on a long-term deal, but New Orleans had to make this move before the March 4 deadline to ensure Evans wouldn't become an unrestricted free agent. Evans, 26, was a 2009 first-team All-Pro selection.

Front load alot of the money to the 2010 season while signing him to a long term deal. It will be easier on the cap when it comes back next year and beyond.

It's highly doubtful we will see a cap again. For players like Brees and Evans it really doesn't matter though. You pay your All Pro players. They are your core.

What's made the league so successful is the cap. It will definitely be back. Otherwise you have the NBA (their cap doesn't work) and MLB.

Well the players union has been extremely clear that once March 5th passes they will NEVER EVER agree to a salary cap again. I think half the owners, the Jerry Jones' and Dan Snyder's of the world don't want a cap. They have to say they do to tow the company line, but they want to run their business like a business and because they bring in high revenue that want to share as little as possible with the rest of the league, and they want to outspend their competition to as many Superbowl titles as possible. The players see how MLB works and like the looks of it. A cap is a restriction to them, and unions don't like pay restrictions or caps. I would do ANYTHING to be a fly on the wall during the next year of negotiations between the league and players.

Not sure how long you folks have been Saints fans, but remember the old days when they'd let players like this go?... and they'd end up helping another team to beat the Saints.

Whew, sure is good to actually have a coach and front office. Wow.
Not sure how to act.

I don't miss Ditka. Haslett was like a nightmare while awake. How many cheerleaders can one coach bang?

The future looks so bright I need some shades. I prefer ray ban wayfarers, personally.

I for one like the cap, because it helps small market teams remain competitive, and it keeps the Jerry Jones' of the world at bay. I'm sorry, but I for one DON'T want to go back to the days of Cowboys, Steelers, and the 49ers dynastys. The NFL is the most popular professional sport in the country, and I think the cap is heavily responsible for that. I think the players need to rethink where this idea could end up.
