New Orleans Saints’ Grant: ‘We could do what the Patriots did’
Speaking after the 2010 Wiregrass Black History Honors Awards ceremony in Dothan Friday night, New Orleans Saints defensive end Charles Grant said his team should be considered a favorite to repeat as Super Bowl champions.
“If we keep the guys that we have on our team, you’ve got to put us as a repeat team,“ said Grant, who handed out awards to Wiregrass area students at the event. “We could do what the (New England) Patriots did.“ The Patriots won three Super Bowls between 2001 and 2005, and Grant said his team has the nucleus to establish a similar run of dominance if it can overcome the perils of free agency. Fresh off winning the franchise’s first championship last month, Grant is still adjusting to life as a champion. “Winning the Super Bowl is a great accomplishment, because there’s a lot of great players that played before me and established what we have in the National Football League, players who were better than me, that don’t even have a Super Bowl ring,“ he said. “I have accomplished that in eight years in the league. I have the medal to show that I am a true champion, champion of the world.“ But football won’t always be there for Grant, and he knows all too well the lifespan of professional athletes. “I know in this game, I’ve got about five more years left in me, and I gotta be business savvy after I leave,“ he said. “My momma always told me, ‘If you can balance the good times with the bad times, life’s gonna get better for you.‘ On the field and off the field, I gotta balance them. Not just with football, but after it, I want to make sure my family’s comfortable by taking what God’s given me and doing something with it.“ ( Ok this dude must be CRAZY. Does he really think he'll be back ??? ) |
