this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Im on the side that he would be better than any backup we currently have. We could sign him for one year to be the backup and have Chase as 3rd for one more year until he moves to backup ...

59.4 is better than Brunells 45.5 passer rating.

Re: Panthers Released Jake!
I'd take him. Lock down a serviceable backup QB for 2 years and look at developmental rookie next year.
Plus he's righthanded, which does make a difference in any offense |

Jake: Overrated. The ONLY reason he had any success in Carolina was Steve Smith. Aaron Brooks or anyone else could throw it up for grabs as well as Jake.
I'm no hater, but Jake was never that good people. Not ever. And being from Louisiana doesn't improve his skills not one bit. |

Re: Panthers Released Jake!
Thats not true. Being from Louisiana makes you better at everything! There's crawfishin' an tailgaitin'. There's drinkin' and Q'n. There's gater ridin' and trunk monkeyin'. There's squirrel eatin' and turtle fightin'. And I don't think I need to even mention possum wrestlin', armadillo tag or cockroach smashin'.
Really, actually, I'm better at everything because I'm from Louisiana.....ask my wife....well no...almost everything...but thats only cause it's so damn cold here in Idaho ya know? I'm outa my natural habitat! Anyway, I'm a homer and wouldn't mind having a Louisiana native in the black and gold, but I still think we need to go younger. |

Re: Panthers Released Jake!
Delhomme would still be with the Panthers were it not for the uncapped year.
Of course, Charles Grant would still be with the Saints but for the same reason. And the NFLPA wanted the owners, at the last minute, to agree to extend the existing CBA (and the salary cap). That proposal was, as they say in the negotiating business, a non-starter. |

Re: Panthers Released Jake!
Between JD and Brunell at backup i'd take JD and still pray that Brees never goes down. Fact of the matter we will never have a great backup or someone better than Brees. We need to have someone manage a game and not lose it for us. I have no confidence that Brunell could lead a drive to win us a game. JD has had only 1 receiver to throw to and I have to wonder what he would do having 4. I'd give him the backup role and retire Brunell to coaching.

No, I'll take the old veteran with some savvy over the 'not-quite-so-old' veteran who was overrated from the start (well, not really since people in the know left him undrafed and other people in the know - like Bill Parcells and others cut him multiple times). Just say NO to Jake in N.O. |

Re: Panthers Released Jake!
Some of you guys have too much hatred in your blood, Jake would be excellent especially under Brees, learning his ability to scramble and hone the ball to the player a little more accurately.. i think Jake would be an excellent backup and i think the Saints should seriously consider bringing him in for a looksy..
I know he Reeks of one of our rivals but don't let that be a detour, he's still got something left in him, as a backup he'd be a much needed upgrade over what we have now.. |
