Panthers Released Jake!
Panthers bid farewell to Delhomme | ProFootballTalk.com
Panthers bid farewell to Delhomme Posted by Mike Florio on March 4, 2010 10:13 PM ET After a horrendous performance in the 2008 divisional playoffs followed by an even more horrendous performance in the 2009 season, plenty of media types were proclaiming (we won't name names -- not because we've decided not to be *****ish but because we can't recall who they were, specifically) that quarterback Jake Delhomme definitely would be back, due in large part to a new contract from last year that paid $20 million guaranteed. We didn't buy it. And we're glad we didn't. Jay Glazer of FOX reports that the Panthers will soon cut Delhomme. His tenure in Carolina ends with a whimper, via a career-low passer rating of 59.4. He'll possibly land elsewhere as a backup, maybe with the Saints, who play in his home state. OH, HELL NAW!!!!!!!!! |
Re: Panthers Released Jake!
Pass....no thanks.

Hahahaha hilarious picture.
I'm pissed that they cut him because he pretty much guaranteed they'd never get too much better. |
Re: Panthers Released Jake!
I'll take Delhomme as a backup. He is better than what we have currently & he would have a better WRs to throw to & a better O Line to support him. Get Lombardi working with him & I bet we could make him a very servicable backup!!

That dude is a legend in his own mind. Jake has had some issues recently in his career it is obvious. But the guy is one of US. He grew up pulling for the Black and Gold. He stood by this organization while Has-been-let bro-manced the player who was at best equal in depth chart status to his jersey number(2). I spoke to this kid at the start of training camp several years back when there was speculation that Brooks would not sign a contract, I saw the hurt in his eyes as He told me in the parking lot of the facility that the nameless one was back and in camp. He grew up wanting to be a Saint. I would love to see him finish his career backing up Brees. He brings leadership and savvy to the locker room. For our next championship id love to see Jake get a ring. Guess Im a Delhomme FAN. He's a fighter, a compettitor and should have the respect of all football fans hes earned it. ( Soap Box going back in storage for awhile) |

Are you kidding me? He is better then any backup we have and this is his home. He will be looking for a Superbowl now. Money is no concern for him. The kitties are paying him 12.5 mil to cut him. My tought is jump all over him now. |

I would prefer Brooks over Delhomme as a backup any day of the week.
Brunell is better than both. |
Re: Panthers Released Jake!
Im on the side that he would be better than any backup we currently have. We could sign him for one year to be the backup and have Chase as 3rd for one more year until he moves to backup next year.
|
Re: Panthers Released Jake!
59.4 is better than Brunells 45.5 passer rating.
|
Re: Panthers Released Jake!
I'd take him. Lock down a serviceable backup QB for 2 years and look at developmental rookie next year.
Plus he's righthanded, which does make a difference in any offense |
Re: Panthers Released Jake!
Jake: Overrated. The ONLY reason he had any success in Carolina was Steve Smith. Aaron Brooks or anyone else could throw it up for grabs as well as Jake.
I'm no hater, but Jake was never that good people. Not ever. And being from Louisiana doesn't improve his skills not one bit. |

Really, actually, I'm better at everything because I'm from Louisiana.....ask my wife....well no...almost everything...but thats only cause it's so damn cold here in Idaho ya know? I'm outa my natural habitat! Anyway, I'm a homer and wouldn't mind having a Louisiana native in the black and gold, but I still think we need to go younger. |
Re: Panthers Released Jake!
NFLN...hes pretty emotional...
|
Re: Panthers Released Jake!
Delhomme would still be with the Panthers were it not for the uncapped year.
Of course, Charles Grant would still be with the Saints but for the same reason. And the NFLPA wanted the owners, at the last minute, to agree to extend the existing CBA (and the salary cap). That proposal was, as they say in the negotiating business, a non-starter. |
Re: Panthers Released Jake!
Between JD and Brunell at backup i'd take JD and still pray that Brees never goes down. Fact of the matter we will never have a great backup or someone better than Brees. We need to have someone manage a game and not lose it for us. I have no confidence that Brunell could lead a drive to win us a game. JD has had only 1 receiver to throw to and I have to wonder what he would do having 4. I'd give him the backup role and retire Brunell to coaching.

No, I'll take the old veteran with some savvy over the 'not-quite-so-old' veteran who was overrated from the start (well, not really since people in the know left him undrafed and other people in the know - like Bill Parcells and others cut him multiple times). Just say NO to Jake in N.O. |
Re: Panthers Released Jake!
Some of you guys have too much hatred in your blood, Jake would be excellent especially under Brees, learning his ability to scramble and hone the ball to the player a little more accurately.. i think Jake would be an excellent backup and i think the Saints should seriously consider bringing him in for a looksy..
I know he Reeks of one of our rivals but don't let that be a detour, he's still got something left in him, as a backup he'd be a much needed upgrade over what we have now.. |

Re: Panthers Released Jake!
Can't say I'm surprised. He was awful this past season.
|
Re: Panthers Released Jake!
I still think Jake was a victim of the system. One receiver and a team built on defense and conservative playcalling. Fox can call a game to manage it but not to win it.
|
Re: Panthers Released Jake!

A victim of the system? All the Panthers ever asked him to do was drive the bus. The system was a victim of Jake. It takes a special player to average 2 INT's a game in with 'conservative playcalling'. My God, how many INTs might he average throwing the ball down field? I don't hate Jake, but this guy was never as good as his billing. |
Re: Panthers Released Jake!
What can you say an uncapped year.
|
Re: Panthers Released Jake!
Jake, Jake, bo bake,
banana fanna fo fake, fee fi mo make... JAKE Yeah...I said it. Doesn't mean I want him to be a Saint again...just always wanted to say it. |
Re: Panthers Released Jake!
LMAO @ all who say Brooks is better than Delhomme. Tim Tebow can throw better than Brooks!! I would certainly welcome Delhomme as a backup. He's better than Brunell in my book. And somebody said only reason he was good was because of Steve Smith. Well we got Colston, Bush, Shockey, Meachum, Moore??, and Henderson. I'll that the Saints collective committee over Steve Smith although Smith is a BEAST!!
