Earlier tonight, word emerged that free-agent safety Darren Sharper underwent knee surgery two days before the start of free agency.

So why did he do it then? Per a league source, he knee was so swollen that he couldn't have passed a physical.

Thus, he had no choice but to get the procedure done.

For now, it appears that Sharper could still land with the Saints. It's believed that a couple of other teams might be interested.


This is starting to come into better focus now. Why should the Saints franchise him and pay the large amount that goes with the tag, knowing this info would cool his value on the market?

Shrewd, but damn that's "Gangsta"!

Wow. Now everything is starting to make sense here. Why wouldn't they have released this information before? That's messed up....

Well, it just means that it's much more likely Sharper will reup with the B&G. Now that we have some free agent options, that is a good thing.

That's what I meant. It's messed up to play with the fans heads like this. Not to mention the way it was all played up in the press, with Sharper's comments, and Loomis' responses. I'm glad this means he is almost certainly coming back, but I dont' like being duped by my own GM, and players.

Cat and mouse, bait and switch from now unitl next season begins; and that's from FA to the draft, through the OTA's to camp and into the pre-season. This is a game, and there is a game within the game that gets you ready for the game. Don't you just love the game?

SaintPaul - I don't think they are trying to dupe the fans (lets face it even most NO fans aren't following free agent negoiations)

BUT I do feel they are playing their cards close to their chest to dupe some of the other teams.

We are the smorgesboard of FA this year with our Super Bowl win (doesn't that just sound & read great??!) & teams will be looking to pick up our players.

Clevland juust sigtned Fujita for 14 mill (???) & we know he is not worth it.

Heck we got duped & picked David after the Dolts won their SUper owl & look what happened there!!
