Anderson as Brees backup?

Brees hasn't missed a game to injury (that I can think of) in the 4 years he's been here. Perhaps, if we were to pick Anderson up on the cheap (let's face it, he wouldn't play much here and would should be paid accordingly), Anderson could work with/under Brees and iron out his problems and in a year or two we could trade him for a decent draft pick once we've picked up a better option as a back up QB. Call him a project pick up - but only pick him up for cheap. 10-6 one season is better than most QBs in the Saints history can claim. Just a thought.

I'm a pilgrim in an unholy land: I'm a SAINTS fan living in DFW and I HATE the Cryboys.

I was thinking along those lines too. An older backup seldom becomes valuable but a youngerone might give you a nice draft pick or so.

Delhomme would be a much better choice at the right price. Plus, I'm sure he wouldn't mind helping mentor Chase Daniel. He should finish his career where it started. Good guy.

Yes we eventually need another backup but keep in mind that the game Brunell played in against Carolina it was below freezing with a wind chill of 23*. Even Drew has struggled in those conditions with all the starters much less backups so let's not throw Brunell under the bus just yet. Let's see what he does in camp and preseason.

I'm with you, Budsdrinker. Brunell is not a starting NFL QB or even a great backup. But he will have to do until we can find someone better. Meanwhile, we have other needs -- LB to replace Fujita, DE to replace Grant. DT to shore up the middle run. We also need a backup center, backup CB.

Re: Anderson as Brees backup?

I'm sure Anderson wants to start. But, coming the Super Bowl Champions for one year, learning from Brees and Payton, and who knows being one injury away, maybe leading a team loaded on offense back to the playoffs and beyond, certainly would not be the worst idea. Make it happen Loomis. Brunell and Daniel are not the answer to a worst case scenerio.

Let me just throw this out there....the thing about Delhomme is this: He's made it clear that he hates the Saints. He's said that to me on MySpace more than once when he would actually chat with you. So...do we really want a guy who hates our organization as our backup? Something to think about!

Pass on that Coonass...he really is a jerk..i know people who have met him and can confirm what you say Joanie...we need someone who will accept their role as backup to the best QB in the league...not a pompass ass such as Delhomo...I would like to get this Andersen kid and see if we can turn him into a quality backup...I think he might be looking to start...but if he would come in and be willing to learn from the best ..then we might be set at that position..

Why does he hate the Saints? I thought he was a fan.

Derek Anderson has all the tools to start in this league. Too bad he was stuck in Cleveland. St. Louis should take a chance on him. He would make a great backup here though.

I think he hates the Saints because he didn't get to start. Truly, with his attitude, I don't think he could ever really take the backseat to anyone again without a lot of resentment. I'm not sure he'd be an asset in any wayn in the organization.
