Re: Anderson as Brees backup?

delhomme would be the best choice but anderson is a capable q.b. with a cannon. he just had scrap to protect for him. face it cleveland sucked bad the last 3 years. they were terrible. and i feel for fujita he's in for the cash and you can't blame him at this stage in his carreer. and he'll go from 16 wins to 4-5 this season.

I don't think it is realistic for him to think he would be a starter anywhere that I can think of, but perhaps he is delusional.
the situation in cleveland off the field was worse than the situation on the field.....cleveland needs leaders.....thats why i think fujita is going there....also remember that the browns receivers are chancey stuckey, mouhamad masaquoi, and mike furrey

they dont have a quality TE and they dont have a pass blocking offensive line except for joe thomas and alex mack

having said that

if anybody has ever watched derek anderson actually play.....which seems to be nobody outside of cleveland....its easy to see how terribly inaccurate he is

he has a very strong arm but he cant manage to put the ball anywhere near his receivers.....

i would not want him as a backup...i wouldnt want him in a box.....i wouldnt want him with a fox......i wouldnt want him on a boat......i wouldnt want him with a goat

Andersen is 26. That's far from old as an NFL QB. Jake is 35.

Re: Anderson as Brees backup?

I just don't understand the Delhomme love - I mean I get that he's from Louisiana and all the brings, but from a performance perspective, if the guy wasn't from Louisiana would anybody here want him? There are other potential backups out there that haven't averaged 2 INTS a game over the last season and a half. Why not one of them. Delhomme sucks.

If we're going to bring somebody in, that person needs to have an upside going forward.

Re: Anderson as Brees backup?

Not to mention, in his press conference the other day, Delhomme said, and I quote: "I will always be loyal to the team that gave me my first chance at starting. I will always consider myself the Carolina Cajun."

Do we really want a guy who, #1. Hates the Saints, and has made it very apparent, and #2. Promised his undying loyalty to one of our division rivals.? I think not. Let him go somewhere else. He HAD his chance to start for the Saints, and he got beat out by Brooks. Put all the blame you want on Haslett, but MAYBE, just MAYBE, he blew it his damn self.

I remember Jake's inconsistency, more than I remember his upsides. He tore the Cowboys up in the Christmas game, back in 99, and then sucked it big time the following week. I have no faith in this guy, at all, or anyway.

Anderson isn't going to be a back up guys. Too many teams needing potential starters, i.e. Arizona, Seattle, Rams, Raiders, hell even Tampa Bay might be interested in pushing their second year rook, for playing time.

What's popular is not always right, and what's right is not always popular.....

Re: Anderson as Brees backup?

You guys are saying he is classless and this that and another. But hell he'll be a clipboard boy on the sidelines. The closest he'll be to playing time is running on the field during timeouts and giving Brees a towel..lol. Besides Brunell is a dinosaur...and im not confident in his abilities as a backup. I'll take him.

I'm with you, Budsdrinker. Brunell is not a starting NFL QB or even a great backup. But he will have to do until we can find someone better. Meanwhile, we have other needs -- LB to replace Fujita, DE to replace Grant. DT to shore up the middle run. We also need a backup center, backup CB.

disagree

the low class fans booed him when he got hurt and called for Quinn with every incompletion. What's he supposed to do, pull a Jake and say he loves the organization and fans that never supported him?
