FA move worth looking at?
Rashad Jeanty (Cincinnati/right-of-first-refusal tender):
Ht: 6' 2" Wt: 245 Jeanty is a former Bengals starter who led the squad with 16 special-teams tackles in 2009. He would require no draft pick compensation if Cincinnati declined to match any offer he signed elsewhere. The tender, if the above chart is right, will be $1.176 million. The move seems to be a favor to Jeanty, instead of a sound personnel decision. He was the team's second-leader tackler at the same SAM position in 2008. In 2009 the Bengals put a second-round tender on Jeanty. He is nothing more than a valuable backup at all three LB positions which he has played. Rashad Jeanty suffered a fractured fibula but Jeanty is currently in a walking boot and should be ready by mini camp. While Jeanty was strong as a depth chart guy, in the past three seasons the Bengals have acquired guys like Brandon Johnson, Keith Rivers and Rey Maualuga. Abdul Hodge has also become a solid special teams guy. The necessity of bringing Jeanty back keeps shrinking. I say at this price he is worth a risk. |
