new NFL rules?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; If you were to list the times the Saints got robbed over the years you'd fill up hard drives with data. I don't arbitrarily dislike other teams. There is always a reason. Well, except the Cowturds. I just don't like ...

Re: new NFL rules?

I still like replay; I just don't understand two things:

why does it STILL take so long, and how is it they still miss 10-15% of the calls?

the 'ruling on the field' part is stupid. Why have replay if you can't come up with 'conclusive' evidence. The inconclusive-so-the-call-stands part is a cop-out

I guess I have a third question- why does the equipment still malfunction?

I was at the Miami game when their TE 'made' a catch that was challenged. They show the replay. and everyone (Dolph fans) reacts with Oh crap. Then they dick around for 5 minutes and say the that the replay equipment isn't working

Re: new NFL rules?

I like that we have rules changes bc of the high profile games we are in.

Question- if they had already changed the possession rule, would Moore's conversion be incomplete?
I mean it was a catch, period.

Thats my thing. EVERY replay challenge, they (weiner) around for at least 5 minutes, holding up the game, breaking the rhythmn, and turning it all into a slow motion bigscreening, where everyone starts spouting a million rules and sub-rules.

Replay was not meant to call the whole game. It was only meant to reverse OBVIOUSLY horrible calls, like Mike Renfro in the '79 AFC Championship. If you cant see a mistake in two viewings, then it is not obvious. Therefore "inconclusive" is not a cop-out, its just saying, "There is no apparent mistake, so I'll trust the judgement of the guy who was 6 feet away from the play." So lets move on, line up, and play football.

I think overall the officials do a heckuva job. I've said crazier things before. But seriously, can we see things that fast? If we could, we wouldnt be looking at the slow motion replay.

1. I say you get 2 replays a game. One per team. One per half. If you think one bad call is gonna cost you a game, then choose wisely. Penalties are reviewable; why would the not be?

2. The officials then have 60 seconds to make a reversal or non-reversal. Thumbs up/thumbs down from the booth, I dont need a dissertation. 60 seconds from Flag to ruling.

3. If its not OBVIOUS, then we move on and play ball.

We lived for 60 years without replay, and did just fine.
Yes, I am crazy.
I love you all.

Re: new NFL rules?

Geuss Im in the minority here but i like everything you hate about replay.
I like the analyzation of marginal plays . I like the slowmotion replays and the discussion of the rules and how they apply. I know it slows the game and as you mentioned with kids it bores them My four sons tend to leave the room during replays.

I am a high school football coach and have played the game at multiple levels in my life for years. I do not agree with the argument of breaking rythm or momentum. The better team or team that executes will win period. as a fan i enjoy the element that replay brings to viewing a game on tv. I delight in every second of a football game and if i get a couple replays to extend my sunday afternoon bliss GREAT!!!

Re: new NFL rules?

The college replay is much better than the pros. Penaties should be reviewable too. Any questionable calls should be reviewable.

I dont think so... I think most people here disagree with my leatherhelmet mentality about replay. I know all my good friends whom I watch the (road) games with on Sundays, think I'm full O' Sh**. This is the Happy Board. There's no Flaming.

Re: new NFL rules?

More rules in consideration fellahs....

NFL owners ponder new-look OT for regular season, approve safety rules - ESPN

Even one for hitting the JerryCurl Dome scoreboard. NICE!
