Jamal Lewis visits Saints Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on April 1, 2010 1:57 PM ET It looks like Jamal Lewis may continue playing football. After talking about retirement all last season, Lewis visited with the New Orleans Saints on this week, according to James Varney of the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Florio pointed out that Lewis may have financial reasons for wanting to keep playing. Lewis is known as a great locker room guy, but we don't quite see why the Saints would need him. They have Pierre Thomas, Reggie Bush, and Lynell Hamilton at running back. In theory, Lewis could help in short-yardage situations. But he's struggled in those opportunities in recent years. The Saints need a young player to groom in case Bush leaves after 2010, but Lewis clearly doesn't fit that mold. It doesn't appear the Saints made a formal offer to Lewis. They also met with Justin Fargas in March. Perhaps they will sign one of the two if they don't pick up a running back in the draft. |

Re: Jamal Lewis
I would prefer Fargas but it looks like the Saints want a bruiser. When all is said and done I would guess that they try to get one in the draft. Then if not sign one of these two.

Re: Jamal Lewis
I would rather have Fargas too. I have plenty of friends to are Browns fans and they say stay away. If he is not good enough for cleveland he is not good enough for us.

Re: Jamal Lewis
I'm just glad the Saints FO isn't too quick to do anything, and good for them. I can't think of any spot that has to be done before sundown. Wait on the draft...see how we do...see how much more desperate some of these FAs get...and we'll probably get better numbers 4 weeks from now. I think our 3rd-and-1 troubles are more upfront and have nothing to do with who has the rock. We can solve our 3rd-and-1 problem by just spreading the field. I like youth in the backfield - Young FA pickup or good 3rd rounder to groom if Bush doesn't like normal money after next season. Lewis might be too proud to take the minimum.

Re: Jamal Lewis
Doesn't hurt to take a look. I doubt the Saints will sign him, but you never know, the Saints could all of a sudden hit a major injury bug at RB and may need guys like Lewis. Let's hope not, but it shows good preparation by the Saints.
