Alex Brown's 1st visit is New Orleans
Steve Geller Reporting The Saints will host another free agent today, this time a defensive end. The Chicago Tribune reports that Alex Brown will be in the Crescent City after the Bears cut him recently. Brown offers the ability to play both end positions and inside the defensive line. The 6'3", 260 pounder is 31 years old. He is a former SEC Defensive Player of the Year, and was a 4th round pick out of the University of Florida. Brown has played his entire 8 year career in Chicago and has 43.5 career sacks. If the Saints don't let him leave town without a contract, Brown will fill a hole left by Charles Grant. New Orleans gave Grant his walking papers in early March. Other potential suitors for Brown include NFC South rivals Carolina and Tampa. |

he must be somewhat of a declining d.e. or the bears would'nt have sent him packing. but on the other hand the saints see something in him to invite the exbear in n.o. but if he shows to be no better than grant he won't be signed. hey look 601 we all know we need a run and pass rush specialist.

Just maybe Julius Peppers and his enormus contract had a bit to do with Brown leaving the Bears!
As a retread, he produces a steady six sacks a year. Two years and out. |

If he left sans contract, he probably wants too much $, this in an unusual draft year deep in talented DE's and DT's.

Brown, 31 in June, is coming off a 47-tackle, six-sack season in Chicago. While he's never been a big sack guy, Brown defends the run well and will at least give New Orleans durability at left defensive end -- something they've lacked for quite a while with Charles Grant manning the position. Brown's addition shouldn't prevent the Saints from drafting a top defensive end if one is available at the No. 32 overall pick, but certainly increases their options.
