as do I every player to wear a saints uni this past season was as important as anyone 1 but Sharp needs to relax uncapped year an all but spending 6+ Mil a year o a declining player is not a good investment+ 2 Super Bowl rings is better then 1 =]

The one thing that really frustrates me is yes Sharper is a integral part of the D and had a career year. Hes Vital to locking up the backend against deep passes and can be a game changer BUT it has been said before, sharper was the product of two/ maybe three great cornerbacks and a harrass the QB system. The way hes whining about this is starting to get on my nerves, hey sharper we got you the thing youve been chasing for 13 years, when no other team would even consider you last offseason.
No doubt it would be great to have sharper back, cuz i wanna see jenkins tutored under him to become great but hes needs to stop this and make a decision.

as he should be, Many Great players unfortunatley dont get to become champions, If He's smart he'll come back, best corners to play behind, and He wont have to learn a new system....+ At the parade he was smashed no where else on earth will you get damn near the entire state to throw a party and condone the antics. That chip in my opinion is the single most important championship ever. N.O Saints are Just plain amazing in 06 the offense was outrageous and now with a championship defense to call their own, I see good things for years to come.....HOOOOOOOOOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......

Ok, I have two things to add to this thread. Number one, reporters ask Sharper questions, and he answers them. I like honest, and straigh forward people. Not these kiss butt, politically correct, "I must answer in a way that people will like" players. He was asked a question, he answered it honestly, and now he's the bad guy? Would you rather he lie?

Number two, and I have said this over, and over, and over, and over again, to no avail, and to NO response, from the people who talk about Sharper's "tailing off", at the end of the season. He hurt his knee in like week 10 folks. Around the same time as Porter, and Greer's injuries. Thus slower, and less effective play was to be expected. And here's a question: Instead of saying that his play was complimented by the skills of Porter, and Greer, isn't it possible, that their great play, might have been a result of Sharper? QB's are scared to throw at him, and for good reason. "No one else wanted him, and we signed him last year, and he should be greatfull, blah, blah, blah, blah...." Sounds to me like Sharper isn't the only one whining around here.....

I'm not "assuring it", but I can't help but think that the int. pass by Porter by P. Manning, may have just as well been influenced by Sharper. Sharper was quiet the whole SuperBowl. This isn't because of his inferior play, but more so because Peyton is is a smart QB and I guarantee that he made it a priority to know where #42 was at all times. I think they were forced to play a little more conservative. Someone like Sharper constipates a QB's thought process.

I give Porter all the credit in the world for reacting to what he saw as he was obviously prepared and everything, but I think Sharper, just by presence forced a more "underneath" passing game than the Colts would have otherwise worked with.

Trust me, Peyton knew where Sharper was at all times. This is also why Sharper didn't see much action.... he was busy shutting down his zones.

And by god, I can't believe people are saying "He was lucky to be on the Saints", and not the other way around... this is absolutely insanity.

The play in which Porter intercepted Manning had NOTHING to do with Sharper. That 5-yard hitch pass is Manning's bread and butter, and don't take my word for it, take Manning's word when he said "it's our bread and butter play" after the SB. They run that play a lot. It has nothing to do with being somehow afraid the safety is going to make a play. It is just a high-percentage play they run a lot on 3rd down. If you want to give credit for an assist, give it to Will Smith and Scott Fujita who both turned to Porter prior to the snap and told him to watch for that play. The closest player was Jenkins, not Sharper. Sharper was a good 7 yards from the play, which in NFL terms is pretty much out of the play.

And, yes, Sharper was VERY lucky to land on a Gregg Williams defense, and to play alongside Tracy Porter and Jabari Greer (and speaking of Greer, talk about Manning being aware of a player) which allowed him to freelance and made the plays he made.

So, again, just stop. There was a dear ol' man who used to post here who had a great sig line. Learn it. Live it. :)

2 things. 1 Peyton Manning and Drew Brees are liken to each other because regardless of personel and coverage they do what they want when they want. and 2 you give off the impression of a sports center fan, Im not questioning your fan-dom more on knowledge of the game.

As a saints fan there should be no doubt in your mind about that of all plays! 22 backpedaled saw reggie wayne breaking down for the hitch and he jumped it and the rest is history. Yes Sharp was on the field and his where-abouts are important, but Peyton Manning constantly audibles to get his team in the correct play so weather Sharp was on the field or not was a none factor for that play. They were gonna run that play regardless its a money play they run alot Reggie Wayne cut that route short as a matter of fact had he kept running porter would have been there to break up the pass. look at the film and u can clearly see that. Its a perfect example of why you should finish your route and always come back to the ball.

I tend to over analyze everything and as a football fan in general I try to stay on point if i'm ever off my rocker let me know =]. 98.5% of anything i say in regards to a player is correct the other 1.5% maybe typos or misspellings. It may sound like I'm riffing at you but you tried to violate a few pages ago an tried to go in on me. I welcome all contradictory opinions but they must be factual. WHO DAT

Guys, you are talking about one play. Yes, it was a HUGE play, but what about those nine interceptions Sharper had during the season? Those didn't count huh? That was all GW. Backed up by facts? The facts are that Sharper gets the credit for those ints in the record books, NOT Gregg Williams. He had a bad year in Minnesota, but here's another FACT, he was a pro bowler in Green Bay, and Minnesota. Was that all part of a system as well? He will be in the HOF, and was ranked in the top ten ball hawks of all time. Did GW's system put him there? NO. His play did. And after the MANY things he did for the Saints during our one and ONLY superbowl run, I find it hard to believe that so many of you are ready to give him the heave ho. That's gratitude for ya I guess.

I seem to remember Osama Young getting embarassed, more than a few times over the season, and even getting BURNED for a touchdown in the superbowl, after coach payton had told him, and the other db, that Manning was going to throw it that way. Now how stupid can u be, to KNOW that it's coming your way, and you still can't defend it?

Tobias / Villian; YES, I KNOW that that play was all PORTER. I KNOW THIS, I MADE THAT CLEAR. I know that that quick hitch pass is their bread and butter. I know they even ran it earlier... it was only analyzed about a g'gillion times. I think you are missing my point in general and making more out of nothing. I don't think Sharper forced that int. or even a bad pass. My theory is that Sharper's presence could have had them thinking more conservative than they otherwise would have been and could have dug deeper into the playbook... maybe gone with D. Clark over the middle or something. You may not, and don't have to agree with me, but you can't assure me that Sharper's presence didn't play a roll in their playcalling up until that int. even. Actually, seeing what Sharper did to all opponents, average to great QB's, they'd be stupid not to play-call around him.

Like someone mentioned, if anything, I actually would blame Reggie Wayne. He ran a weak route and didn't fight for it regardless. He shouldn't let the smaller DB get between himself and the ball. Peyton threw it where he would have been had he taken an assertive cut and cut off the CB. I felt that the moment it was transpiring... I also think it took all of Peyton's patience and nerve to not get mad at him, or even to later comment in the press about the route. When it happened on the field, you could see blame in Peyton's eyes, because I really think he put it where it was supposed to be.

I don't think Sharper is Superman, and I feel he's only just as pivitol as Greer and Porter at this point... but we're not talking about loosing "them" and value at their position.... But if anything can be assumed, based off of what Sharper has put on film throughout the season and knowing Peyton's diligence studying film, Sharper would be the one to play into the psyche of Peyton's progressions and mindset throughout plays.... not Greer or Porter. I just couldn't help but feel as the game progressed that Peyton was very conscious of Sharper and intentionally avoided him... I don't think you can say that about most of Peyton's outtings against opponents.

I think the "he's lucky to be here" argument is ridiculous. At this point, every Saints player is lucky to be here because of the success they shared together. Also, he's lucky to still be working. But to hear that, it comes across as ungrateful. I don't think ANYBODY would have had the impact that Sharper did filling in our safety needs. Sharper has played probowl "caliber" football for different teams at different times. He wasn't the product of a system... that is absolutely absurd! The guy sits atop record books, and has surpassed many of the all time greats. He's about to own the NFL's int for TD return record. None of this is a fluke. at what point do you acknowledge that he's as good as it get's? To say that a guy like that is lucky to be working is laughable. And so Williams implied a good scheme.... Greer and Porter, played solid. Can you assume that Sharper wouldn't have had such a productive season if those two factors were missing? A ball hawk will be on the spot whether his teammates are playing up to par or not. And also, Sharper is and was the hardest hitting player on the team... no argument. He's also the most cocky and vocal. So.... saying that, why is it so hard to believe that he could have played the biggest part in bringing the Defense to another level. It happens all the time. Y'all have been watching the game for a while right.... have you seen a certain personality, vet, come to a team and raise it to another level hummmm? Yeah, a defensive scheme needs to be right, but 1 player can raise everyone's intensity and drive.

I'm with Logic on this take. As I said before, Sharper was making pro bowls, and amassing his HOF status long before he became a Saint. And to give all the credit for his great plays this season to GW, is a slap in the face. Yes, GW brought alot to this defense, but the players play, not the coaches.

Hold on a second...
No one is saying Sharper didn't make the plays he made:he's a very astute player and has a knack for being around the ball, and I doubt you'll find a Saints fan who doesn't want Sharper back for at least another year.

HOWEVER...

you cannot deny the fact that Sharper greatly benefited froim GW's defense, because it was GW's scheme who put Sharper in a situation where he could make use of his skills, and you cannot deny that Sharper also benefited from playing in the middle of Tracy and jabari, knowing he could take chances and be sure the CBs were going to hold their own.

If you are going to look at the 9 INTs this year and that he made the popularity contest bowl 4-5 years ago, well, let me bring my dear old Jason David into the conversation. Why am I bringing back Jason David? Did you know that Jason David had more INTs than Darren Sharper the previous 3 years?

DON'T GET ME WRONG NOW! I'm not saying Jason David is better than Sharper or that I want to have David back. Hell, no! What I am simply saying is that, if it was all Sharper, then he would be intercepting balls more consistently every year; if it was all Sharper, then he wouldn't have a year with a single INT in 16 games.

You simply cannot deny that Sharper landed on the perfect situation for him, i.e., a Gregg Williams defensive scheme and 2 CBs who don't need babysitting.
