this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; a lot of people wanted him last year if he came out and now some mocks have him dropping past us. what are your thought? would you want him?...

Re: taylor mays
im not sure about him but think he may be a guy williams likes. put him out there to play safety but can sneek up to play lb in some situations possible. the kind of multi player he likes.

Re: taylor mays
He's entirely too fast not to be able to play in coverage, just as there is bad film on him there is good, team really didnt throw his way much so stats arnt outrageous the kid can ball he went to USC and they dont just grab anybody, Dirty Sanchez, Sed Ellis Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart( dont try to violate I say he has a coming out party next season Bank on it!) Carson Palmer, list goes on Give him a shot, if hes not what were lookin for pass but if he can cover then get him a FDL, teach and instill in him to form tackle instead of tryin to break the hit stick on ppl and he'd be ok, if not find out what fat cody has been eatin and make him into a OLB

Re: taylor mays
Last year I wanted this guys, but strato is right, he cant cover. He would be good for a team that has an excellent pass rush and right now, i dont think we are that team.

Re: taylor mays
It would be absurd to draft taylor Mays, a big and fast safety, and try to bulk him up a bit, and make him into a LB. Why? There are plenty of good LBs (even OLBs that can play at DE), why try to fit a square peg into a round hole?
People say versatility, but Jerry Hughes, whom we may very well draft at 32, can play both OLB and DE. Taylor Mays has trouble covering at safety anyway, so I don't in any way understand the rationale for wanting Taylor Mays. |

Re: taylor mays
very talented player
too often people compare college players to pro players and expect their careers to turn out the same more often than not their careers turn out very different mays is not like roy williams except for the size and speed.....other than that they are 2 different players....they both have different instincts....different football smarts and different coverage skills mays can cover but how many coaches do you think wanted their kids to get plowed by a 220lb safety who hits like a train? |

Re: taylor mays
I'd take him in a heart beat. Dude is a freak. And forget that nonsense about him not being able to cover, that's purely coaching. Get him an offseason with our guys and he'll be ready to go.
Regardless, he won't be there, most mocks have him going late teens. |
