The Latest News, Schedules, Pictures, NFL Updates & MoreSports » New Orleans Saints restricted free agent left tackle Jammal Brown is planning to skip offseason workout program By Mike Triplett, The Times-Picayune April 13, 2010, 3:16PM Chuck Cook / The Times-PicayuneNew Orleans Saints left tackle Jammal Brown says he's not going to report for the team's offseason conditioning program Monday.New Orleans Saints restricted free agent left tackle Jammal Brown said he has not yet signed his qualifying offer from the Saints, and he is not planning to attend the team's offseason conditioning program when it begins next Monday. "I don't consider it a holdout. I'm just patiently waiting," said Brown, who was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this year before new league rules went into effect, making all free agents with less than six years of experience into restricted free agents. The Saints offered Brown a one-year qualifying tender of $3.619 million, which is lofty but nowhere near the kind of money the two-time Pro Bowler would have made on the open market. Re: Jammal Brown to skip offseason workouts
you get hurt for the entire season last year
you get a free super bowl ring....you play on a team completely capable of repeating and you can actually earn your ring you play on a team that is more loved by its home city than any other sports franchise IN THE WORLD and your going to sit on ur butt while the rest of the team gets better you earn no sympathy from me or anyone else by doing this......you want a better contract......EARN IT i hope to god bushrod doesnt play like **** like he did last year and takes your spot if you cant manage to get over a few cents no matter how much i cheer you on and support you as a player, you will never get a huge contract extension after you sit an entire season on the bench |

Maybe he's in tip top shape already and needn't work out with the team! |

Re: Jammal Brown to skip offseason workouts
I think this is about the only leverage he has...
|
Re: Jammal Brown to skip offseason workouts
I would take a 2rd pick for him at this point
|
Re: Jammal Brown to skip offseason workouts
I tend to agree...cause he got bad knees...so how does this work.. if we want to trade him..being a RFA..does he have to sign first then we can trade him?..i am not up on all that...

What a little $%*#@. Sign the offer, play it out and work with the team next year. |
Re: Jammal Brown to skip offseason workouts
i just as well think he won't be here in 2010, talking like that just makes me think he;s gone and we will get great compensation for the 2 time pro bowler, we have a great staff with great judge of talent especially offense line talent so i'm not worried one bit.

no way in hell i would let him slip away for a 2nd rounder even if he isnt worth a 1st and a 3rd......hes definitly worth a 1st and i dont even like saying that hes invaluable to this team and deserves whatever contract he wants.....but i highly disagree with players sitting at home while the rest of the team shows up......thats BS and he dropped a few notches in my book by just saying this |
Re: Jammal Brown to skip offseason workouts
Let the man fish! He may catch the BIG one. How much longer can he really carry all that load on those knees? effectively?

Re: Jammal Brown to skip offseason workouts
Could we trade him to the Patriots for Vince Wilfork, get Jared Gaither for our second rounder and let him and Busrod fight it out. Wilfor next to Ellis would be a deadly combination.

yes. he can be traded but only once he signs. after the deadline saints have exclusive rights and i believe can trade him then too. |

Surely I'm misunderstanding something here. Surely a guy who missed an entire season and saw the team do better than when he was playing is not invaluable. He's valuable because he's a good player, but invaluable is unbelievably... What's the word I'm looking for? Silly? Ridiculous? Please explain what you meant, surely that's not what you intended. |

brown is a 2 time pro bowl LT......he has missed significant time only once in his career(last year).....he isnt as injury prone as people make him out to be oh yea.....and our backup that we put in last year......stunk here's a little tid bit to help you understand what im talking about He led the league in rushing average behind left tackle while only allowing 3 sacks in 2008.....and those holding and false start penalties he had? brown was credited with 7 penalties all season in 2008......combined he made up for 10 bad plays the entire season when we passed the ball more than any other team in history and our starting LT only gives up 3 sacks and is credited with only 7 penalties all season......BROWN IS A STUD Quote:

How you liking Brown now?!? Trade his arse now and get a guy that wants to be here; and no, if you didn't play you shouldn't get a ring, tough break  but that's how it should be... It's not a dig on you, it's just this all I've ever seen out of this guy and that's why I would love to get even a R2 pick for 'em |

but this upsets me a lot you hear a lot of this from skill positions but not very common for offensive linemen......im really disappointed in him |

Here's what Pat Yasinkas wrote two days ago: Falling New Orleans offensive tackle Jammal Brown. He reportedly will stay away from offseason workouts and we can only assume that’s Brown’s way of stating he wants a big, long-term contract. That’s a bit of a risky move. Brown is an above average left tackle, but he’s not dominant. He missed last year with an injury and the Saints got by with Jermon Bushrod and Zach Strief. That wasn’t an ideal situation, but it showed the Saints can function without Brown. That could turn out to be a sign of things to come. Take a look around the league. Teams aren't rushing to give out long-term deals because they don't know what's going to happen with the labor situation. Brown's not exactly playing from a position of strength right now. And yes, Brown is injury prone. Not once in his five year career has he played 16 games. While this past season was the longest, I still consider somebody who can never play a full season to be injury prone. And while Bushrod certainly isn't as good as Brown, he's no chump. The Saints line, as a total, gave up the fourth fewest sacks in the NFL so let's not try to paint him as a terrible lineman. The Saints also had the fourth most rushing first downs in the NFL when rushing to the left side, and the seventh most rushes over 10 yards. |

i know exactly what invaluable means.....i used it correctly in a sentence and even spelled it right......you want its country of origin too? there is nothing that you can tell me that i dont already know about jammal brown because ive had this argument a lot more than you have. no matter what pat says, a 2 time pro bowl LT is not simply "above average" |
Re: Jammal Brown to skip offseason workouts
Brown will bring a high 3rd at best in a trade with maybe a conditional 4th next year that could become a third thrown in. But, when it's all said and done, I expect Brown to be a Saint in 2010. And for the 2010 season, my opinion is that's for the best. There no doubt Bushrod can get the job done. But, the more talent and depth the better. Without Brown and with an injury to Bushrod or Stinchcomb, Strief is starting with no depth behind him. The downside is with all the tackles being free agents next year and two most likely leaving, a strength becomes a weakness real quick.

i got this app on my iphone that you should really check out....it lets me know EVERYTHING.....but alas.....it costs millions of dollars and its banned in 49 states im not implying that the saints should give brown whatever he wants.....im flat out saying the saints should give brown whatever he wants it was evident that brown is light years ahead of bushrod and brown clearly deserves whatever he asks for simply by being on the field |
