I guess I am on board with this pick. Gerhart could be a stud for the Saints. The Saints already have a very nice backfield, but it's still incomplete, this guy could complete it.

Re: Lets draft Toby Gerhart

i guess im not on board because i dont see what he offers that another back already on our team could not

is it power? im pretty sure lynell hamilton and heath evans could provide that....and even PT has shown he has strong legs.....and i wouldnt want to get in the way of reggie's stiff arms

it certainly isnt speed because we have that....receiving out of the backfield? blocking?

he isnt big enough to play TE and he was a running back so he probably wont fit well at FB

is there something other than his yardage that was so great? he didnt lead the nation in yards per carry or anything like that....but he did manage 343 carries.....more than any other running back in the country

so shouldnt his total yardage be decent?.....just wondering why everyone thinks hes awesome

not trying to rain on anyones parade

I'll rain on the parade =]

All Valid points, Gerhart is a wasted pick for us, what does he do that the others dont or offer? I said it once before I'll say it again, He had the luxury of playing behind one of the bigger offensive lines in the country, Standford is notorious for developing monster linemen and stout offensive lines, so I see it more of a quality player playing behind a very very good offensive line, I'm not impressed with his game he looks no better then jacob hester IMO, speed isnt a strength agility or elusivness arnt either, his hype comes from him being the best white running back prospect since pfff who knows, cant talk about Gerhart without talkin about him being white and playing RB heck hester would have put up those kinda numbers playin behind gerharts guys IMO, Everyone loves to buy into the mock drafts and all that, thats fine my imagination flares a lil too but what could he possibly have to offer a championship team that needs a FS,OLB,NT,DE more then they need a questionable running back? (Brian Leonard anyone?) And a team that has had a top 3 offense with the same core group of young players its had for the last 4 years? at pick 32-64 There are tons of guys who can help out this team but gerhart is not one of them in the areas we pick if we got an extra pick and the team was high on him maybe but he's not impressive to me doesnt do anything that wows me or even makes me think he's any better then what we have now or what other teams have, Gerhart is intriguing yes but at what position do you play with him let him learn behind heath evens as a FB and use him as a runner for short yardage but considering what it will take to achieve that scenario #32 and #64 so far are to important to just BPA a pick on a running back who has a high chance of not translating to the NFL. Gimme Fat Cody and Jerry Hughes, Cody is the NT we need and hughes looks like terrell suggs out there comming off the edge

Re: Lets draft Toby Gerhart

see I want a multi weapon in the rotation that we can line up everywhere with bush. Dorin Dickerson, Pittsburgh

but this would be a solid pick

For me its just that he represents a style of football I like, I'd love to see Gerhart and Evans in the backfield just powering their way. We have the OL to do that and that's something I enjoy watching. He is a good blocker but most of all his running kinda reminds me of Deuce.

He's an excellent blocker, which is key in this offense.

He reminds me of a faster Mike Allstot, and he's a better blocker.

But all good points for and against. Its just my opinion he and PT would make a deadly backfield and the money over spent on Bush could be used on a stud defender.

I'd probably rather go defense in the 1st and 2nd, but I would not be upset with this pick at all.

Re: Lets draft Toby Gerhart

I'v reviewed the film mainly his "Highlight" videos and I see nothing that jumps out hes a fast full back, he uses his body to his advantage thats a good thing, but he's a fullback with some agility, all these bone crushing hits u ppl talk about i dont see em, i see poor tackling by defenders, I see the defensive line get their Ass's kicked by the offensive linemen on all big plays many running lanes and creases where other backs would hit the crease and see them in the endzone, gerhart gets run down or met shortly after he breaks the lane( not plain, LANE) He never tears ass and bolts to the endzone all his big runs he's always being run down and would be stopped had the pursuer not run into a cheap receiver block down field, NFL LBs and Dlinemen will make the tackles and wont just let him bowl over like he did against weak...weak...weak competition. If he's so awesome and all that, why isnt he the best RB prospect this year? Dont let that 2nd finish in the heisman race get u, the voters dont like to vote for underclassmen and previous winners, they do and have for underclassmen but not often, mo clairett adrian peterson reggie bush rex grossman arguably could have won the trophy as underclassmen multiple years. Ingrim won this past year because he was the better player, Gerhart got 2nd from stats not skill Tebow and McCoy could have easily taken that 2 spot
