Jahri Evans not attending workouts

New Orleans Saints guard Jahri Evans is not participating in offseason workouts but negotiations remain positive
By Mike Triplett, The Times-Picayune
April 21, 2010, 2:57PM
New Orleans Saints guard Jahri Evans' agent, Jerrold Colton, confirmed that his All-Pro client has not been attending the Saints' offseason conditioning program this week. But he said that he and the Saints have had "meaningful" and "positive" discussions about a long-term contract extension for the restricted free agent. And he said it's possible that Evans could rejoin the Saints even before a deal gets worked out if talks remain positive.

"I wouldn't completely rule it out," said Colton, who said Evans has been working out "hard on his own" in his hometown of Philadelphia and is "anxious

why are we cutting evans slack but not brown

both are all pro worthy and both can be perennial pro bowlers

this is BS.....no matter how good you are you show up or you dont play

Considering we have adquate backups for Brown, I think it is justified.

Evans is the man and he doesn't get hurt.

guard is a much easier position to play......not taking away from evans but a bad interior linemen can be masked and their mistakes can be covered up......like goodwin

if a tackle stinks, everybody and their mother knows it

while evans may be better at his position than brown, brown's position is easily the 2nd most important on the offense if not the first most important and that makes brown as important if not more than evans

In March, when Loomis was joking around saying that the FO was behind schedule, that was all good, because they had a pretty good excuse...

Now it's time to work and get your O-line signed

No doubt..and im for bringing both back...but if Brown wants out ..trade him for some picks..pick up a safety and dt ..lbs..and longsnapper

Quarterback, Offensive Coordinator, Center, Running Back, Wide Receiver all have to make reads before the snap...

The Left Tackle has to make sure he doesn't get beat by the Defensive End...

The guard has to get out, pull trap, pancake Defensive Tackles, often bigger than him, for the whole game...

I love your passion, but your wrong on this; except, I don't like hold outs either, even if it is Evans whose earned a major pay day...

Consider this...

if you were Saints GM, offer either Evans or Brown for trade and see who other teams want and what they'd offer...Evans wins

Re: Jahri Evans not attending workouts

Look at it like this, we won the damn super bowl without Brown. Evans is more important to our o line than Brown. How soon do we forget all of the damn holding calls against Brown in almost ever game. He may be a pro bowler, but i'll take Bushrod and get some picks for Brown. I hate to tell you, but Strief and Bushrod have resigned, so that means Brown is trade bait! Don't blame Evans for holding out, it's part of the business of football. He's gonna resign and he's working out still, so no big deal. Now if he weren't in there for training camp i'd be a little concerned.

They are cutting slack on Evans, because he is in their long-term plans. The same can't be said for Brown. Simple as that.

every position makes reads....you just listed everybody but the tackles AND GUARDS.....but everybody makes reads

which is arguably the most athletic and talented player on each defense

most of the game you know what the guard does? he double teams a DT with the center and basically passes the DT back and forth

yes of course they have to pull......but so do tackles in the NFL and any good spread offense

as for DTs being bigger? most DTs sit at about 300 to 310 lbs......evans is listed at 318lbs......not many DTs bigger than him that he has to man up against

lots of teams need tackles.....we'll be one if we get rid of brown......creating a problem by getting rid of a player is not the best way to continue our winning ways

He needs to get his butt with the rest of the boys right away. I don't care who you are, if you wanna play with the Saints you better practise with them.

Jeanpierre: You didn't play guard by any chance? I'm playing LT myself, making reads and calls for the line on most every snap, I pull and do all that fancy stuff, a lot of my time is spent helping the guards handle DT but most of the time I'm trying to kickslide as fast as a man running forward.

Guys please chill out. This is voluntary "workouts". That means the team is not even practicing together. They are working out with weights and such. The difference between Brown and Evans is huge by the way. Brown is a one time Pro Bowler coming off a serious hip injury. Evans is an All Pro and probably the best player at his position in the NFL. We will get him signed, probably to one of the highest Oline contracts ever, and he will be in training camp. Does Evans strike you as the type of guy that doesn't work out intensely on his own time? Please.

brown is a 2-time pro bowler

in fact......he made the pro bowl in '08 and '06 and was an all pro in '06

there is a reason that tackles go #1 overall ALL THE TIME and a guard has never once gone first overall

He made one of those two as an alternate due to an injury. Not a real Pro Bowl year in my opinion.

Really, what's the reason? Who were the two starting LT's in the Superbowl last year? Where they first round picks? Go get your shine box.

do you think jonathan goodwin is going to give up his pro bowl this year? i sure as hell know i wouldnt.....if he was an alternate it means he was considered but beaten out by somebody that may have had a better year or may have had fans voting out the ass for him.......like the vikings this year

A TEAM PLAYS IN THE SUPER BOWL......NOT A POSITION

our LT this season had nothing to do with our talent AS A TEAM

our starting LT should've been brown but he was placed on IR after missing several games

could he have been back in time for the super bowl? who knows.....but i know they kept him off IR because they felt like he could come back midseason and contribute

injuries at other positions caused us to force our hands and place him on IR probably a bit premature but after missing 6 games(i think) it was probably the right decision

Re: Jahri Evans not attending workouts

What's your freaking point??

You said there is a reason teams pick LT's and not guards in the top ten. I just proved to you that the position is no more important than LG when you have a QB like Drew Brees or Peyton Manning. Evans because of his ability to pull block on screens to Reggie and Pierre is actually MORE VALUABLE in our offense than is our LT.

And Brown was put on IR during training camp and the preseason by the way.

fyi......LT is considered easily the most important position on the offensive line....thats my point.......tackles in the NFL pull on screens and swing passes as well.....stinch has made a living doing that

the fact that brown plays a more difficult position makes him more valuable to the team

and oh yea......brown was placed on IR on september 29th......2 days after our 3rd game of the season

Re: Jahri Evans not attending workouts

Yea, Brown is more valuable to the team. That's why we are working on a long term deal with Evans to make him one of the highest paid players in the NFL and we are shopping Brown around.

Makes lots of sense doesn't it. I guess Loomis and Payton are idiots again.

I know for a fact that Evans agent and the team are working on a long term deal for him. I know for a fact that Brown's agent and the team are not working on a long term deal.

If you actually think Brown is more valuable to the team than Evans you don't know ANYTHING about football and I'm wasting my time as usual replying to you.

what you don't know, is that stockman311 is in fact Mickey Loomis :)

... but seriously... the way I see it, I see coach Payton having the say-so on who comes and who goes in his offense. If Brown walks, I am sure it is because coach said it is ok for him to walk, and given what has transpired the last 4 seasons, I trust Payton to know what's best.

yet you continue to reply......perhaps in hopes of rehabilitating me?

players aside.....which position is more important to an NFL team?

LT or RG?

LT is the easy answer.....now you have an all pro at both positions......great

which is more important to the team? well it would be the player that plays at the more important position of course

Re: Jahri Evans not attending workouts

Evans is more important to the Saints. Regardless of position he is the second best football player on our team. He will be here long after Brown has gone the way of the dodo bird and I could care less about rehabilitating you. It's pretty obvious from everyone else's posts whose opinion carries more weight around here and whose opinion is seen as a joke. Look at your avatar.

Again, I don't have to tell you how I know Evans is working on a long term deal and Brown isn't. I just do, and if you don't believe me, I don't really care. Time will prove me right or wrong just as it will tonight during the draft, when Fat Cody is sitting there and we bypass him.
