Player Bio: Patrick Robinson

Patrick Robinson Stats, News, Photos - Florida State Seminoles - NCAA College Football - ESPN

Patrick Robinson #21 CB Seminoles
Birth Date September 7, 1987
Hometown MIAMI, FL
Height 5-11
Weight 193 lbs.
110 tackles
3 Forced Fumbles (he'll fit right in a Saints uniform)
7 Interceptions (ditto)

Twenty-four of his career-high 52 tackles came vs. the running game in 2009.
Coming to Florida State as a 169-pound freshman, Robinson matured both on and off the field. His added bulk, along with his excellent speed, has often seen him emerge victorious when taking on the opponent’s premier wide receiver. Few cornerbacks have the natural hands and ball skills Robinson displayed in his career. He can go up and compete for the ball at its highest point with the best receivers in the game. Robinson is capable in run support as well and took on a more active role inside the box in 2009. Twenty-four of his career-high 52 tackles came vs. the running game in 2009.

Attacking the ball like a receiver is how Robinson intercepted six passes in 2007 to earn honorable mention All-ACC recognition. The cornerback burst onto the scene as a sophomore, intercepting six passes while starting five games to tie for seventh on the school’s season-record list. He also tied a school record by picking off a pass in five straight games.

In 2008, Robinson notched 26 tackles, four passes defensed and one interception. He capped off his career in 2009 by earning second-team All-ACC honors as a senior while helping Florida State to a victory over West Virginia in the 2010 Gator Bowl. He provided a lasting memory of his outstanding speed in that contest by chasing down blazing fast West Virginia running back Noel Divine on a 70-yard run.

Robinson attended South Miami High School before transferring to Gulliver Prep. As a junior, he was an All-Region selection by Prep Star, as he caught 32 passes for 491 yards and six touchdowns offensively and added eight interceptions as a defensive back. Robinson scored 10 touchdowns and intercepted 11 passes as a senior to earn first-team All-State honors for Class 2A from the Florida Sports Writers Association. Scout.com and Rivals.com gave the cornerback a four-star rating as both recruiting services listed him as the 16th best prospect at his position nationally.

Robinson chose Florida State, enrolling in 2006. He played in 12 of the team’s 13 games as a back-up to Tony Carter at left cornerback. The first-year freshman made an impact on the Seminoles’ special teams unit.

In the Clemson clash, Robinson blocked a PAT attempt that was returned for a defensive score, marking the first time in school history the feat had been accomplished. He later returned a blocked PAT the length of the field for a defensive score in the Seminoles’ victory over Duke.

In his second season, Robinson exploded onto the scene, playing in 12 games and starting five contests at the boundary cornerback position while splitting time with Michael Ray Garvin. He led the team with six interceptions and tied a school record by picking off a pass in five consecutive games. He averaged 0.5 interceptions per game to rank third in the ACC and 12th nationally. His six pass deflections were also tops among Seminoles defenders.

He started eight of the nine games he played in 2009. He racked up 26 tackles (22 solo) with two stops for loss of six yards while deflecting four passes and intercepting another. As a senior in 2009, Robinson started all 12 games he played in, missing the Georgia Tech contest with a sprained left ankle, and earned second-team All-ACC honors. The senior cornerback ranked fifth on the team with 52 tackles (16 solo), including three stops for losses of seven yards. He tied for seventh in the ACC with an average of 0.92 passes defended per game, as he totaled a career-high 11 pass deflections.

Oh yeah, this guy is gonna fit RIGHT into a Saints uniform.
Coach Williams wanted this guy, is my guess.

Merry Christmas Coach Williams. Enjoy your early Christmas Draft Pick present.

Sweet.

He has a good mentor in Tracey Porter.

He is better than you'll ever be. Stay on your couch and just cheer.

If you dog on any of our players ever again your fanship will be revoked and you'll have to move to Atlanta and get a falcon tattoo.

Re: Welcome: Patrick Robinson

I agree. A Tracy Porter clone. I have read enough source material now to know he was the most athletically gifted CB in this draft. It is encumbant on the coaching staff and the other DB's to coach him up now. Our Secondary is now the best in the NFL IMHO.

Truth be told........Deion wore#21 in the pros (except for the Ravens. #37). At FSU, Deion wore #2.

I read on one thread that he wasn't fast enough to keep up with speedy wide outs. This piece said he has excellent speed. Which is it?

He's fast. 4.38 40 at his pro day. 39 inch vertical. By any measure that's elite physical skills for a 5'11.5" cornerback

I posted a comment about his inability to run with speedy wide outs earlier.

I read one scouting report that said his speed was suspect for the league then later saw where at his Pro day work out he ran like a 4.37-- 40yd dash. I am not sure guess ill just shut up and trust the guys who are willing to place their job security on these decisions. *** returning to arm chair with soda***

I normally don't like it, either, but this guy doesn't pinpoint one person. He pinpoints us all. He deserves everything dished out to him, since he likes to dish it out so much.

Re: Welcome: Patrick Robinson

I understand the pick Randall Gay isnt gettin any younger, so I understand the pick there. I like the player, on film He's quick and reacts very fast He's fast enough to stay with most receivers has a head for his position he plays wr's well. However that said I dont like the selection when we could have taken a guy like Everson Griffin , maybe Sergio Kindle , if the the Fo felt PR was the best player available I trust in their judgment and look forward to see this kid in a FDL! Plays like Asante Samuel quick to react and reads the wr very well. IMO he's better then Joe Hayden and i dont think hayden is better then any of the corners who went after he. ...SO for your enjoying pleasure I give you PATRICK ROBINSON CB FSU!

I do not thik this who we went into wanting when the draft began last night BUT as other players fell this guy was the BPA at a needed position.

(Not to say he was the BPA overall at the 32nd pick just the best one for OUR defense!!)

If you're scared, call the law.

I am against comments about grammar in a forum such as this, which is why I made a big deal out of Choup's comment to another poster. I am solidly convinced you don't read enough to really understand what's going on. Me thinks you see a post and react. Choup appears to do that too...

I'm also solidly convinced you don't truly understand the concept of fragments, splices, and other 7th grade grammar, but that's ok man. So long as you aren't in a position of power and thus have the authority to issue the death penalty to me when I correct you, I think we'll be ok. ;)
