New Orleans Saints Conference Call

1st-Round Draft Pick CB Patrick Robinson

Thursday, April 22, 2010

Welcome to the Saints, Patrick.

"I'm glad to be there. I'm glad to be a Saint."

Were you surprised at all by this selection?

"I'm just honored to be picked in the first round. That's a huge honor. It was very exciting for me."

What do you know about the Saints defense?

"I know they play a lot of man-to-man defense, and that's something that we did at Florida State, so that's a great thing for me.

"I'm excited to be a Saint. I'm very excited to come in and show exactly what I'm made. So I'm very excited to be a Saint."

How much contact did you have with the Saints leading up to the draft?

"I'm just so excited right now; I'm lost for words really."

What teams had you in for visits and where did you think you were going to go?

"I started out my visits with Tampa, then Tennessee, Minnesota, the New York Jets, Detroit, San Diego and then the Saints."

So did you rack up a lot of frequent flyer miles?

"I did, actually."

Questions for Robinson's agent, Kevin Conner

"Patrick is just so excited to become a Saint. They were his last visit before the deadline.

"Patrick is excited to play for Gregg Williams. Gregg coached my safety, Gerald Sensabaugh, in Jacksonville so we know what kind of defensive coordinator Gregg is and he's very excited to play in that scheme."

Where are you guys right now?

"We're in Miami. Pat is from Miami and that's where we are now."

What was this night like for you and Patrick?

"It started out very quiet. Pat is a low-key guy and he wanted to keep it kind of intimate with his family. It was very simple and then as the draft went on, people started gathering. When it got to the last four picks, those teams had targeted cornerbacks and the Saints and Colts were both really high on Pat so we felt comfortable when we saw the last corner, Kyle Wilson, come off at 29, I told Pat that there was a strong probability that he would be taken in the next two or three picks. I guess word seeped around the room and then the Saints called and it was a go."

What was the scene like in the house when the call came in?

"It was absolutely ecstatic. They were waiting for the announcement to come across but Pat had already had a preliminary conversation with the Saints organization, so the actual moment of getting the call and seeing Drew Brees go up and make the pick, it kind of capped it off for him. He's just so excited to be a part of a Super Bowl champion."
