USC Tackle Happy to Join Saints

With their second pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints used the 64th pick overall to selected University of Southern California offensive tackle Charles Brown.

The 6-5, 303 pound Brown is a former tight end who successfully made the transition to tackle and wound up protecting the quarterbacks’ blindside. He is known for his tremendous athletic ability and astute footwork that moves very well, a skill critical for matching up with speed rushers in the NFL.

Brown joins a deep group of offensive tackles at the Saints, with Jon Stinchcomb, Jammal Brown, Jermon Zach Strief currently in the fold.

“I don’t know much about the guys that are there, other than Jammal Brown,” Charles Brown said. “But I do know that I am ready to come in and compete for playing time. I don’t know where it will be, but I know that I will give it my best effort.”

Brown, in his home in Santa Monica, California, said he was surprised not only that he wasn’t selected earlier in the draft, but also by the fact that it was the Saints that called him, since he hadn’t heard much from the team recently.

“I talked to them at the combine, but that’s about it,” he said.
