Davis admits mistake with release of Russell
Davis admits mistake with release of Russell - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

"As for Russell, he could land with a team looking for a No. 3 quarterback. There is speculation that a club in the market for a backup, with a head coach who has developed quarterbacks in the past, could take a chance on him. The Saints could be a team that shows interest, and Minnesota might take a chance on him if Brett Favre retires. There was never much of a question about Russell’s talent, which could still be intriguing to some coaches."

Please, please, don't!

No chance he winds up on the Saints. We don't value players that are lazy and unmotivated no matter how far they can throw a football.

Re: Where JaMarcus Russell Could Potentially Land

Well in his defense Oakland has been a burning ship for years, The offensive line is horrible Darius Heyward-Bey LMMFBAO McFadden and Asamoah are the only good players on the team. You cant do well if you are set up to fail, I say if Sean P believes in him and has a plan then bring him in he's still very talented, but he was a project when he came out Al davis has done nothing to work on his weakness's but burn draft picks on ppl who run 1.9 40's. I believe in 2nd chances and if pacman can have em why cant Russell? He is on the hefty side but thats not an issue hes been big his whole life, he could slim down and be more mobile though. If Sean P can bring N.O a Super Bowl then I'm sure he can work with Russell and get the most out of his talents and refine the weakness's he has. All the above said personally I'd rather take a QB whos been in a passing offense as they can read coverages and its easier to coach them up and get them to produce if they have the tools

If Russell wants to play football, the perfect spot for him is the Saints. I joked on another thread that he should pay the Saints for a roster spot. The organization is solid. He would get some coaching for the first time in a long time. The Saints O-Line is one of the best. The recievers can run routes and catch. And it's close to home.

I'll join you in minority here.
1-The guy has unbelievable talent. Imagine what Payton could do with him
2-As mentioned by someone above, he has made a ton of money, so if he wants a job (on the SB champs), he'll be cheap, as $$$ won't be the factor
3-his rap is lazy and unmotivated. Playing back home might help, and no way our locker room puts up with that. Wearing the black and silver will de-motivate anyone
4-His coaches have been awful. awful.

I am not saying he is going to come in and compete for Drew's job, but he would be worth the gamble. Bigger jack@sses than him have turned their careers around

He doesn't have the right kind of talent for a Payton offense. He's just huge and has a big arm, which are not requirements for Payton's offense. Ability to read defenses, accuracy, timing, ability to survey the field, those are the right types of talent.

And imagine this guy going from Oakland, when he was the owner's protege and did whatever he wanted, even got a head coach fired, to NO and start training under Payton and next to Drew Brees. This would be a shock like going from being a hairdresser to joining the Marine Corps. It'll be too much for him.

If he still wants to play, he'd be better served going to a team with a simple offense as a 3rd QB and get a work ethic first, which at this stage, may be the hardest thing to do.

'Cause the simple man pays the thrills, the bills and the pills that kill

Re: Where JaMarcus Russell Could Potentially Land

I was listening to Sirius NFL today and a least 2 people mentioned the Saints. 1 announcer and 1 caller.
