BATON ROUGE - At a field dedication in his honor at the Louisiana Leadership Institute this past weekend, former Grambling State legend and Washington Redskins Super Bowl MVP quarterback Doug Williams watched a video montage of his career along with the crowd in attendance.
The video concluded with the narrator informing the audience that Williams was employed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a tidbit Williams was quick to correct. Williams told the crowd he was no longer employed by the Buccaneers, but he believed he wouldn't be unemployed for long. Having spent the past six years in Tampa Bays personnel department, Williams is weighing his options as he prepares to make his next move. He said the split with the organization that drafted him 17th overall in the 1978 NFL draft was amicable. "The guys that are in control at this particular time weren't the guys who hired me," Williams said. "The guys who hired me are no longer there. I think anybody who's in that position has the right to make a decision about who they want to work for them, and its good that we both were big enough to sit down discuss it and go our separate ways." Doug Williams, departed from Tampa Bay Buccaneers, mum on job opportunities | - NOLA.com Should we bring him in for a looksy for the director professional scouting position? or leave it be? |

He had some really good moments in the NFL. I hope that he does well wherever he goes. It's always good to see a player make the move to management.

Yeah, he's kind of an icon around these parts having played and coached at Grambling. I was disappointed when he left, because he had gotten that football program up to the standards that Coach Rob left behind when he retired. I've met him before and he's a really nice guy. |
