what is the deal with this injury and our players. I havent heard of any other team who has this problem. we obviously have some sort of strength and conditioning problems

I was thinking the same thing. I looked up info on it and it is pretty interesting. Much harder to diagnois than I thought. Dosen't bulge out like normal hernia.

we have been discussing this for YEARS. ever since SP came in the one knock on the team has been the amount of injuries in the training camps and pre-season. It was ridiculous in 08 and let to a lot of guys missing games. Last year SP reportedly backed off and injuries weren't so bad expect Brown and we won a SB. But now...here we go again.

Bush league crap in my opinion. A injury like that is bad for a speed guy. Any guy for that matter. Shockey and Will Smith were slowed for an entire season with the same kind of injury. (08 season)

I think that the injured players core just isn't well conditioned enough to take the sudden heavy conditioning program. I've had a sports hernia and it'll slow you down but you can play with one if you can take the pain.
I'm no physician but after playing rugby for years I've seen a variety of injuries. The one injury that isn't joint related that we see occasionally is a sports hernia. It usually happens when someone has gotten soft(not as tough) after an injury or they are new to the heavy conditioning. I'm no expert but if he's in good shape he should be able to come back within the diagnosed time frame.

Well after every body going on IR in 08 I'd figure that the medical staff would be replaced, GET RID OF THOSE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NURSES THEY DONT KNOW WHAT THEY R DOING! This Hernia epidemic is alarming but considering the team was carrying the hopes and dreams of not only the gulf coast but Saints fans all over the world a hernia is feisable

It's more common than you think, especially with players who twist and turn a lot. In fact, it's practically an epidemic in hockey.

In years past the injury was viewed as a groin "strain" or "pull" that simply needed rest.

Doctors today find that sports hernia surgery leads to a faster and fuller recovery.

So would you prefer players rest a groin that could be re-injured - say during a Superbowl run - or have surgery and fully recover in 3-4 weeks with little chance of re-injuring the site???
