the 2nd statement is based on actually watching him play
It's going to be hard to convince anyone that losing MS is going to set the team back from where we were last year since he did not play.

Which backup LB was better than MS last year? Any who was physically able to play.

No, it's like saying that last year Jermon Bushrod was a better tackle than Jammal Brown , because he played.

Which is a true statement.

And, at what point during his tenure on IR was he healthy?

So, you are saying that none of our backup linebackers are as good as a guy who can't play?

I can just imagine Canton as the head coach of the Saints.

DC: We need to put in our backup LB.

Canton: Well, they aren't as good as Simoneau.

DC: But Simoneau is on IR Coach.

Canton: Yeah, sure we can't play him?

DC: Yeah Coach, pretty sure we can't play the guy on IR.

Canton: Okay, screw it. Lets just run with 10 on defense. Same difference anyway.

DC: *BANG*

If only I could start a poll, we could make this a solve-it-yourself mystery. Did the DC commit Suicide or Murder?

Watching him play while he as on IR? Was he still running circles around everyone else while he was paying on IR?
