Steve Geller
Outside linebacker was a position many thought the Saints would address in this year's draft after Scott Fujita left for the bigger paycheck in Cleveland. The team actually went on to select more players on the offensive side of the ball, leaving us to speculate about who will be the starting strongside linebacker this year. Coach Sean Payton has said, "It's probably one of the typical competitions that's going to take place between two or three guys. I don't want to specifically rule anyone in or out, but we have some guys that we've drafted and we have some free agents that will all have an opportunity to compete for that spot" (entire story here) |

Re: Steve: Who will replace Fujita in 2010?
Well, they drafted Stanley Arnoux last year, who then missed the entire 2009 season with a torn Achilles. He'll get a chance to compete along with undrafted rookie free agent Harry Coleman, URFA from 2008 Jonathan Casillas, URFA from 2007 Jo-Lonn Dunbar and newly signed free agent LB Clint Ingram for an OLB position on this year's Saints squad

There is going to be some great competition for that job. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Ingram is going to get a lot of time, but I'm thinking someone is going to emerge from the group of others to nail down the spot for a few years.

Re: Steve: Who will replace Fujita in 2010?
If I remember correctly, I read recently that the coaches have Ingram penciled in as the starter for training camp. Undoubtedly, this is going to be a great spot to focus on in camp this year. I have very high hopes that out of the group 1 or 2 of them have the talent to really push this line backing group even harder. Fujita was good for this team......but there is always room for improvement. You never know how a change of scenery can affect a player like Ingram. Didn't Vilma just come off a knee injury and came to the Saints after leaving a system that just didn't fit him? That worked out well for him and us. This team just keeps getting stronger. You gotta' love it.

stan the man comes out of nowhere to give ingram some pressure. then gets lots of playing time. really i think its going to be a rotating carossel of players that will cause nightmares for offenses

I think a more appropriate question is "Is there a better than mediocre SLB on our roster".
Its not like Fujita was some kind of stud OLB. Simple mediocrity replaces Fujita. |

Re: Steve: Who will replace Fujita in 2010?
I remember seeing an article where Williams said he was watching tape on Aaron Curry and he had Arnoux rated higher than Curry. Hopefully he is healthy because if Greg is right, and he usually is about defensive talent, Arnoux is Vilma Pt 2
