New Orleans Saints minicamp update: Robert Meachem, Malcolm Jenkins inactive in final practice
Most of the team drills were on third down and nickel packages.
Wide receiver Robert Meachem was dressed out, but he did not practice this morning. He had toe surgery in May, but Coach Sean Payton said Meachem should be back when training camp begins. Fellow receiver Devery Henderson has been limited in minicamp as well after undergoing sports hernia surgery in the offseason. "It changes your depth at receiver," Payton said. "Fortunately with both injuries we know the exactness of them and the time frame we'll be working with. We're going to try and get Devery some more work here in these next two weeks. Both are still involved in the walkthroughs and meetings. We have to get their rehab done the right way." Defensive back Malcolm Jenkins also did not practice today after suffering a bruised knee. Payton said Jenkins is day-to-day. "A lot depends on his swelling," Payton said. "Fortunately, it's just that." Defensive lineman Jimmy Wilkerson is "weeks ahead of schedule" in his rehabilitation from a torn ACL he suffered against the Saints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 16 last season. "We're still waiting on Wilkerson's health, but I've been pleased with his rehab," Payton said. "We're going to have him to start training camp. "(The defensive line) is not as clear as 10 years ago when you said, 'This player is our left end.' We'll take a close look at the versatility of these players and what they can do." The New Orleans Saints wrapped up their final practice of minicamp Sunday with an hour and a half session outdoors. A player who has been on the field during minicamp is Greg Paulus, a quarterback the Saints brought to minicamp after his performance in the team's rookie camp. Payton said Paulus shows promise in the offensive huddle despite his "limited reps." "Paulus is a good decision maker. I'm glad he's back," Payton said. "He's someone who can handle everything you're installing and taking it to the field." The Saints will return to the practice facility tomorrow for another morning session of organized team activities. The team will travel to Plaquemines Parish on Tuesday to be with those affected by the oil spill. "Our players are excited to spend time with the people and lend our support," Payton said. |

Re: New Orleans Saints minicamp update: Robert Meachem, Malcolm Jenkins inactive in final practice
What an awesome and deep team the Saints are fielding this season! Just pray that the injury bug doesn't hit these guys in a major way this year and they should roll along like a Tsunami toward the shoreline this year!!!
This is the best defensive secondary the Saints have ever had, by far! There will be some very good players cut to make the 53 man roster this year folks! There is super strong competition all over on the defensive side of the ball from D-line to D-ends to linebackers to corners and safeties! Our receivers and tight ends are going to be near impossible to cover in goal-line situations this year with Jimmy Graham added to the mix too! |
