New Orleans Saints rookie CB Patrick Robinson has rough finish to minicamp
By James Varney, The Times-Picayune

After making several plays during the first four mini-camp practices, New Orleans Saints rookie cornerback Patrick Robinson, the team's first-round draft pick, must have breathed a deep sigh of relief when free agent wide receiver Matt Simon, who had scorched him down the left sideline, dropped a perfectly thrown deep ball from quarterback Chase Daniel.

Robinson and Simon tumbled to the ground, the ball bounced on the turf, the crowd moaned at the blown play, and Robinson jumped to his feet and headed to the sideline.

Just short of reaching that haven, however, Robinson encountered defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.
The meeting was no accident. Williams had begun striding purposefully toward Robinson at roughly the same moment Simon blew past the defender, and by the time the coach and the cornerback came together Williams already had Robinson's jersey by the shoulder in a grip that looked less than friendly.

Holding Robinson at arm's length like a malodorous garbage bag, Williams lips could be seen delivering a steady stream of coaching encouragement. Williams' helpful lecture continued as Robinson's feet began churning, he dropped to the ground for a pushup and then jumped back to his feet, repeating the process as teammates, carefully studying the sky or their shoes, began to drift away from the pair.

Later, Robinson also got burned on yet another sparkling catch from wide receiver Marques Colston, but perhaps because that happened to just about every member of the Saints' secondary during minicamp, no coach appeared to treat that as a teachable moment.

Afterward, some of Robinson's veteran teammates in the secondary smiled at the memory of Williams and the rookie. In general, they said, up-and-downs, or 'who-dats' as the Saints now call them, aren't required on a mere beat as that is part of the game. But then, Robinson didn't know that.
