Saints creating room for Brees' deal. That's $3.4MM for Jammal Brown no longer on the books and now another $2MM for McCray we don't owe not either.
I just think the personnel people don't like one dimensional players, which McCray was. I will miss him for the simple fact that he wrecked Favre's ankle in the NFC Champ game. Crucial play.

I'm w stockman on this one.

Depth is an issue at the moment though:

Starters: Smith and Brown
Rotation: Charleston and Wilkerson (who may not be ready for the start of the season)
UDFA signings: Galette and Sharpe - both considered undersized for the DE 4-3 position.

The good news is that we still have Hargrove.

We may seem slim here at the moment, but I'm sure Gregg has his eyes on other players.

I'll bet w pick up someone's cast off before camp.

My best guess is if the guy has no chance at starting, then it makes sense to dump his salary. His production did slip tremendously in 2009.

wow, all i can think of is how bad mccray must be feeling thinking he had another year on board. well he'll catch on somewhere, but at a lower price.

not big on weakening our biggest problem....defensive line

mccray was really only valuable on passing downs but he was arguably our best backup and having him in the rotation was crucial to our success down the road against teams like minnesota, arizona, and indy

i could say i trust the coaching staff in their decision making but they really have tried to make a lot of bold moves this offseason and i hope its not going to come back and bite us later this season

With ya there! And I totally agree that DL remains our biggest area of need.

But they must have guys on their radar. No way they don't add two more guys.

I'm with you guys on this one ... maybe they know something we don't with the young guys in the fold. But one has to admit we weren't world leaders in terms of number of sacks as a team. If it weren't for the bag of tricks from GW and a now rock solid CB corps, we would not have had the numbers we had last year. I say, let's give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

McCray had the DWI arrest, he's probably been on shaky ground since then.
