This for Chad Jones, former LSU safety an New York Giants rookie injured in a car crash about a month ago. Get well soon and work hard. We want to see you in a Giants uniform again.

Giants' Jones out of hospital

New York Giants rookie safety Chad Jones is heading home Tuesday to New Orleans after spending nearly a month at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

The team announced that Jones, who has undergone numerous surgical procedures on his left leg and ankle following his terrifying car accident June 25 in New Orleans, will return in several weeks to undergo further, unspecified surgery.

"Chad is in great spirits and excited to be getting out of the hospital," said Ronnie Barnes, the Giants' vice president of medical services who met with Jones on Tuesday morning. "All has gone well thus far for Chad and he will return in probably six to eight weeks for another surgical procedure."

In the accident, Jones lost control of his SUV and crashed into a pole -- police stated later that alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the wreck. Jones required seven hours of surgery to restore blood flow to his left ankle and save his leg.

The team flew Jones to New York to undergo further procedures, including plastic surgery and orthopedic procedures.

It is unknown whether Jones can resume his playing career next year with a long road to recovery ahead.

The Giants open training camp Sunday at the University at Albany. The team has not made a roster move with Jones, who signed his contract about a week before the accident.

A play-making safety with the Tigers, Jones was part of LSU's 2007 national championship team and was a left-handed relief pitcher for the 2009 Tigers squad that won the College World Series. He was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers weeks after the Giants picked him in the NFL draft.
