Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
It was fate that the Saints first super bowl appearance was against a Manning. As any other New Orleanean, I am a die hard Saints fan. I was in high school when Archie was drafted and remained loyal to him, as did many others, during his tenure with the team. Archie has been an ICON to the city and we watched as both Peyton & Eli were drafted and won Super bowls. We wondered what it would be like if either of them had won a super bowl with the Saints. Then it was our turn and when Peyton could not find the courage to congratulate the team he grew up with, I found myself no longer a Manning family fan . I now rejoice in our new ICON, Drew Brees.

The Manning family still does a lot for NO and the surrounding area, as mentioned in the article. Because of that I can't hate them. But I was disappointed when Peyton Manning didn't congratulate anyone after the game. Manning said he left the field to give the Saints they're moment but that's BS. You go congratulate the other team. Also, I think the family needs to get over it. Sure, it was tough that night, but a new season is here and if you can't look back and be happy by now and celebrate with the city then your being a bit childish. |
Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
I don't read anything into that article. I know the family personally actually and they are stand up nice people. They are torn because in one way they are happy that the Saints, the community won a SB that they live in and have always been apart of but to be on the other side of it as well having a Manning on the losing side of that makes it tough.
I almost feel like if Peyton or Eli said 'don't draft me, I want to go to NO'. It would be a better story sure but. You couldn't have come up with a better story for a SB than this and instead of taking crap about them for what every there take is and how they feel I think is an injustice for all they have done for the Saints, the community and to all the ones who attend their camp. I been reading people bashing them and come on bashing them just isn't New Orleanian like. |

Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
This article makes me laugh out loud and at the same time, you can't help but feel sorry for the Manning family. Still, all any true Saints Fan really wants to do is beat the crap out of the NYG in the NFC Championship game this year. LOL
Sorry Archie http://www.chaseclub.com/charlie.gif |
Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
It's good that they are doing their part for the city and the Gulf region. I don't think any of us would expect anything less. However, Archie needs to get over the fact that his boy and his team lost. If he is happy for the team, then show it. The next season is about to start for crying out loud. How long is it going to take for him to get over it? Looks like the perfect son of the "first family" isn't so perfect after all, Archie.
P.S. I wonder if he'll be happy when the Saints win it again this year? Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Mannings! |
Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
oh well - at least this year it sucks to a Manning.

Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
"Olivia and I kind of got cheated out of the madness," he continued. "It's been months of madness here and we're really not part of that."
My advice to Archie: You're a New Orleans Saint. Put your Saints gear on and get the hell out of the house and enjoy this. Quit feeling sorry for Peyton. He's a big boy now. You are part of New Orleans. You are one of the reasons that make the city great. You deserve to celebrate this victory just like every other Saints fan that has been tortured for 43 years. In my opinion, you should have been on one of those floats in the victory parade. Now quit whining, get out of the house and enjoy this victory. Hell, bring Peyton with you. Deep down, he's also a Saints fan. We would like to see him get out and enjoy this too. |
Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
I agree with Sir Psyhc and Srgt.Hulka.
N.O. was really good to the Manning family and made them as he and his family have been good ambassadors for the whole N.O. and this region-SE LA and Mississippi. Yeah, I said "made." Archie did well because he was a big fish in a small pond, you know, was embraced and made by Uptown Rex-Comus people in his businesses, social life, son's lives , education, etc. and there is nothing wrong with that. Remember the Royal Olds commercials. Was it Peyton or Cooper or all three boys who were in the commercial? WWL employs Archie. I mean all of this in the nicest way.If he had gone to,NY Jets or Giants or LA Rams, Archie would have been small fish in a big pond and his lifestyle and livehood would have been very different. Remember all of the reports about Archie heled Brees and wife findtheperfectUptown N.O. home and how good friends Cooper and wife are friends with Drew and wife...well,my point is Ithink the Mannings could have taken part in Saints SB things.IfArch had been in the parade, you knowpeople would have cheered him on. I get that he wanted his son to win and naturally you support your son, but this after -the -SB game is not taking away support from his son. |

The more I think about it, to hell with the Mannings. I have no loyalty to any of them no matter how many years he was with the organization or if they are (or were) New Orleans favorite sons. I know I should by proxy, but I wasn't even a fan until after he was already gone.

I just can't hate on Archie. If that had been my son...I mean, I can see where he was unable to enjoy it like the rest of the city. I still the guy is a class act who most would be proud to know.

Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
I can totally understand how Archie & Oliva have mixed emotions about our SB victory. Blood is thicker than just about anything people. As much as Archie loves N.O., I can guarantee you he loves his sons more. All of them have been stand up people. Have you ever seen a Manning act a fool like TO? Did they ever go into a bar packing, and shoot themselves? Did they expose themselves to some chick at party while drunk? I mean geez c'mon people, get a lil perspective.

Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
I agree pumpkindriver. Last year at this time everybody on this thread loved Archie Manning. He was Mr. New Orleans. I think you need to back up and think about what Archie has meant to the New Orleans area for all these years. All of a sudden, everybody is turning on him just because he is having a hard time dealing with the mixed emotions he feels for New Orleans' Superbowl win, and his son's loss. It must be difficult to have to deal with. However, my earlier statement still stands. He needs to get off his ass, get out and meet the people, join in on the celebration. The Colts lost. There is nothing he can ever do to change that. Suck it up, be a good sport, and congratulate the team and the city on the accomplishment, and join in on the fun.

Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
Did I miss something in this article? I didn't read anything in the article that gave me any reason to believe Archie is being a D-Bag. He said that he and his wife are kind of on the sidelines of all the celebration and don't really get to get involved much. ( My assumption here is out of respect for his son) Well, I don't blame him. He starts celebrating his teams win, then his son feels like he's celebrating his loss.
Then he says he "wishes the Colts didn't make it to the Super Bowl". He never said he wished the Saints didn't make it to the big game. Can't blame him here, he would be able to celebrate without any guilt if the Saints had beaten another team in the SB. Look, I'm not "Manning" guy, but I respect Archie and what he has done for the Gulf South. I didn't like the little game they pulled on draft day back when Eli was taken by the Chargers. I don't really care for Eli or Peyton. I think they are good QB's, but they act very spoiled and selfish at times. I've felt like that long before the whole post Super Bowl "handshake" or lack thereof. I wouldn't have a problem if there were people still talking about Peyton and how he reacted, but Archie hasn't done anything wrong guys. Hell, he's probably going to catch some flack just for making the comment that he wishes the Colts never made it to the SB. The guy has to concious of his family and their feelings. I don't know how that game was for him....talk about bittersweet. You know he was cheering for his son, but he WANTED the Saints to win. Anyway, unless there is a bunch more information that I'm not aware of, I don't have a problem with Archie. But I still think his boys are spoiled. |
Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
Yeah i kinda agree..i just think its REALLY silly for Archie to not enjoy the win....and if Peyton is the reason why ..then he needs to grow the hell up..

Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
The Manning acorns fall close to the family tree.
Whiners. Period. I've been saying it for years and that was never a popular opinion but I've never let that stop be from railing along the truth. Whiners. Period. All of them. I've met most and I stand by my statement. Gripe, complain, biotch, moan, whine. Just watch them for Christs sake. They are always pointing the finger. You never see a "my bad" from a Manning. Welcome to Manning reality. Whiners. Period. Clear enough? Again, I've been saying this for quite a long time. Nothing in that article changes my take on the matter. |

Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
I agree jnormand and that was kind of my original point. Like OldMaid said, have you read the comments at the end of the article? Archie is getting raked over the coals, and for what, supporting his son. Whether we like him or not, Peyton is still Archie's son and Archie is going to support him. Everybody talks about the hospitality that New Orleans has to offer. This hospitality and support has been offered to Archie for years. He makes one comment about being torn between two loyalties, his passion and his son, and he gets ripped to shreds. Do you think Drew Brees is treating his friend, Archie, this way? All the people trashing Archie should take a look at how this is seen and taken, not only by Archie and his family, but the whole nation.
Now Archie, again, the game is over. The Colts lost. We are sorry you had to go through this. We are NOT sorry that the Saints won the Superbowl. Archie, come on out and join us in our celebration. We want you to be a part of it. We welcome you with open arms. QBrees says he has the first round, I've got the second. |

Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
This thread doesn't even exist in a parallel universe.
Archie Manning IS a good person by any account. If any of you people were in his shoes you would have the same emotions he has about the whole thing...unless you're a douchebag of course. |

Re: Archie hasn't been able to enjoy Saints SB win
I can understand Peyton and Eli not showing any happy emotions with the Saints finally winning the SuperBowl.
However.... Archie, not being able to celebrate the victory is "F'in" rediculous! Your sons have loyalty to their team. Yes, you have loyalty to your sons, but come on, I don't expect Archie to lead the victory parade, but at least be happy the Saints FINALLY DID IT! If this was Peytons first trip and had never won a SuperBowl, I could agree with the "I haven't been able to celebrate" crap. Both of your sons have won the great prize, Archie. YOUR TEAM just won their FIRST. Enjoy it, even for a little bit. |
