The New Orleans Saints waived fullback Marcus Mailei and re-signed free agent fullback Jason McKie, General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Friday evening.
Jason McKie Mailei is a second-year player who was signed by the Saints from the practice squad of the Philadelphia Eagles in December 2009 and played in two games, making one tackle on special teams, before being placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. The 6-0, 255-pound product of Weber State played in the preseason opener for the Saints last week against the New England Patriots, catching two passes for 7 yards. McKie, an eight-year veteran, first signed with the Saints in May and participated in the team's offseason program before being released before the start of training camp last month. The 5-11, 247-pound graduate of Temple University spent the past seven seasons in Chicago, having played in 88 regular-season games with 47 starts. He has 29 carries for 84 yards and three touchdowns and 68 receptions for 364 yards and three scores.
