On The Bubble: New Orleans Saints final roster to be determined by numbers' game
NEW ORLEANS – The 53 pieces to the Black and Gold puzzle are coming together slowly but surely.
By mid-afternoon on Sept. 4, the New Orleans Saints and every other NFL outpost must have their current 80-man training camp rosters pared to the league maximum of 53. Let’s be honest here: Anyone with a working knowledge of the current Saints’ work force can probably get to 60-65 players without too much trouble. It’s getting down to fighting weight where the trouble begins. Ask yourself these questions as you get your house in order: - Based on Saturday night’s performance by Chase Daniel, do you keep two or three quarterbacks? - Do you keep three or four tight ends? - Do you keep Chris Ivory, one of the veterans (Ladell Betts or newly-signed Deshawn Wynn) or two of the three? - Do you keep five or six wide receivers now that Adrian Arrington has come on? - Do you keep eight or nine offensive linemen? The first seven are gimmes. Rookie C/G Matt Tennant appears to be a keeper. The potential odd man out is C Nick Leckey, who also contributes on special teams. My dilemma comes on defense where I have been struggling since Day 1 of Camp 2Dat to shove 50 pounds of mud in a 5-pound bag. Some bodies will have to go … and chances are they will end up on other NFL rosters. read the rest here | |
