Sharper put on PUP. Will miss first 6 games
METAIRIE -- New Orleans Saints veteran free safety Darren Sharper will be placed on the league’s Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, meaning he will miss at least the first six weeks of the regular season while he continues to recover from offseason micro-fracture knee surgery.
That information was confirmed by league sources to NewOrleans.Com on Friday afternoon. The team has made more roster moves ahead of Saturday's deadline to pare down to 53 players including the release of veteran QB Patrick Ramsey, defensive end Bobby McCray and center/guard Nick Leckey. Also, wide receiver Adrian Arrington and free safety Usama Young have confirmed to NewOrleans.com that they have made the 53-man roster. "I still got my playbook, don't I?'' Young said as he left the team's training facility. Darren Sharper on PUP, out first 6 games for New Orleans Saints |

I think putting Sharper on the PUP list is the best option. It gives Jenkins 6 games to prove if he can be a legit starter or if he needs more time to develop. It also gives Sharper the chance to really get healthy and replace Jenkins for the rest of the season and playoffs if he needs to. It also gives us a good backup in either case.
I have confidence in Jenkins to at least be decent, but I'm not yet sold if he can make the kind of game-changing plays that Sharper did. I guess we'll have to see. |

I don't think they PUP him unless they were absolutely sure he would have to miss the 1st few games.
I don't think this decision had anything at all to do with Jenkins. |
