Saints Cuts (MERGED): Bobby McCray released; Ladell Betts and Patrick Ramsey let go

Defensive end Bobby McCray has been released by the New Orleans Saints. NFL Network first reported it and it was later confirmed by WWL.

McCray signed a four-year deal for $20 million back in 2008 and ended up starting all three playoff games for the Saints during their Super Bowl run last year. He was then released earlier this summer and brought in at a reduced rate.

Sadly for the veteran though, the Saints built up a big group of talented defensive lineman including the young undrafted rookie Junior Galette. Galette improved a lot during the preseason and his fantastic performance Thursday night against the Titans may have been what made McCray expendable.

Running back Ladell Betts has also been released by the Saints as has been confirmed by his agent Tony Agnone. Betts was coming back from knee surgery and doing all he could to make the team, but young talent again won out.

Rookie Chris Ivory left Thursday night's game with a knee injury but there is no word yet on how serious it is. The release of the veteran could spell good news for Ivory as well as newly signed DeShawn Wynn who also played well against the Titans on Thursday night.

And it appears as if the Saints will only be keeping two quarterbacks on the roster this year and Chase Daniel beat out the veteran Patrick Ramsey. According to the Times Picayune, Ramsey's agent Jimmy Sexton is reporting that the team has let the quarterback go. No confirmations have been mad yet by the team.
