D looked good!
Not worried about our offense....and our D really looked good. Any thoughts?
|
Yer we seemed to force more 3 and outs than last year, coverage was pretty tight, would have liked to get more pressure but I think sed Ellis had a great game. Our o should get on track soon
|
If our D plays like that when our O gets going, gonna be A LOT of blow-outs!
|
What's up w/ all the dropped balls?
|
Sorry, but I wasn't at all impressed with our run defense tonight. Peterson had way too many carries for 4+ yards. I screamed for someone to stop the run all through the draft because we had the same problem last year. guess we are still looking...
Pass D looked good though. Vilma had a pick, and Jenkins *ALMOST* had another one coming across from center field. But on the Viks touchdown drive, we got burned on miss-matches on two long passes. Grade: C, maybe a B-. |
Really?
I thought our D was TERRIBLE in the first half and for that first series in the 2nd half ... We couldn't stop the run to save our lives, but then we pulled it together. I think GWill got less aggressive and everyone calmed down ... That helped. Plus, in the first half our LB's couldn't find the flats if you would have put a naked Saintsation in them ... |
We still killed them in yards ... 288 to 253 .... lmao
|
We held them to under 100 yards on the ground, after last year I'll take it.
|
I thought considering it was AP and he had no fumbles tonight we did well.

Fujita is gone and Sharper is out, just a few adjustments in players needed. AP was a monster to stop tonight must have been knocking back Red Bulls before the game. Favre looked like he missed a lot of workouts and looked drained in the second half. Drew played cautious and the Coach kicked up the running game. Important to get the win because this game could have slipped away.
|
Stop the run!
They seemed to get their momentum back in the second half, but I think we gave up too many yards in the first half. |

Secondary was solid.
LB's were 50/50 - as was the d line. I thought the O line was solid. Bress was crisp. RB's played well. WR's were 50/50. Biggest area of concern for me is our ability to control the clock First game. I'll take the win vs a huge opponent on a huge stage. Media will make a big deal of this... but our run game will improve. |

So we broke A.P little record of no 100 yd opener?..pretty good there Hililard..the O left them out to dry..that was coaching and dropped passes...D was good
|
We held AP from hitting any long runs but his average was still way to high. He's backup did get stuffed all the time thou. Jenkins laid the big hit and made som nice tackles, i think he'll turn out allright.
|
Our bend-don't-break D was great tonight. B+, A- Just look at the stats.
Yes, we gave up a lot of second effort yards to AP, but he is the best back in the league (just ask him). We gave up only two scoring drives to a pretty good offense. I am in the majority that my biggest concern is LB- other than Vilma, they looked slow and slower. Thank God we put moved Harper to the TEe in the 2nd |

I agree Scott, the point is AP is a premier back, and the Vikes have a decent offense. Favre does not look comfortable with his receivers. The D could have been part of the reason of him not looking comfortable, such as the adjustment made in covering Shiancoe. For a first game of the year, not a bad showing. I do see the LB concerns too, will be exploited if something isn't done.

The defense looked good. Anytime you hold any team in the NFL to 10 points or less, you did your job. Yes, the Vikings looked out of sorts. Favre looked like a less than healthy 41 year old QB. They missed their top reciever in Rice. They missed C. Taylor. Harvin looked like he and Favre haven't practiced much. I personally think the Jenkins hit had more to do with it. But, Vilma is a beast. Greer is the real deal. Harper had a great game. With only 3 DT's on the roster, they kept Peterson as much in check as anyone can. Shanle and Dunbar showed up. Jenkins held his own. Overall I would give them an A.

I didn't think we blitz'd nearly enough. That was a little puzzling considering every time we did, it rattled Farve.
I didn't like the package where we had Mitchell lined up 12 yards down the field playing like a safety. Even though on that one instance it worked out for us, that could have been disastrous. He had no safety help over the top, he's not fast, and he shouldn't have to play centerfield... he's a true MLB, not a hybrid linebacker. Other than that, I thought we played great. We held the Minnesota Vikings to 9 points... 9 frickin' points. We held the great Adrian Peterson under 100 yards... so what if he pulls a bunch of 4 yarders? He doesn't it to everyone. He's a man child that keeps his legs churning at the point of attack. We did a good job containing him. |

I liked our gameplan on D.. It confused him..and remember we blitzed on the only td pass he threw...now our offensive gamplan in the first half left a lot to be desired.. |

And Shanle is not good in pass coverage. I too was upset the way Peterson was running on the Defense. Jenkins will taking over that spot if he continues to play the way he did. Other than Vilma we're missing the outside LB that can do both play pass and a beast in the run/blitz game. |
