Good Game

Thought both teams looked rather rusty. Our offense, other than that one drive looked really rusty. But that didn't surprise me one bit. We had the same type of performance against Cleveland last year. It's just that, unfortunately for us, you guys aren't Cleveland.

With that said, I still expect both teams to be there at the end. I honestly thought, after that first drive, you guys were just going to shred our defense through the air. I was quite surprised with how well our secondary held up to be honest. Obviously I'm disappointed by the loss. But I think we, as Viking fans, have something to hold our heads up about (going into the game, all of the cards were stacked against us). You guys made a nice adjustment in the second half of figuring out how to get Phat Pat blocked, so Kudo's to you guys. Some of that could be not being in game shape, though too. Would be interesting if we were to meet up again at some point in the playoffs.

Again, congrats and good luck the rest of the way (unless we meet you in the playoffs).

It just seems to me, Favre just doesnt have it this year. After the best year of his career last year and being as old as he is; plus his ankle, I doubt he has another one in him.

C17-BING 09-09-2010 10:55 PM

Favre will be fine ...

The VikeQueens, however, will be out in the Wild Card round ... It's too bad honestly --- I like the Favre story and wouldn't mind seeing him have a good run. I just don't think they are as good this year as last. Just sayin'

If you watched him last year, against Cleveland in the opener...you would've seen the same performance as he had tonight. He's rusty...that's too be expected. He'll be fine and I can guarentee you he'll still be there in the end. Nice thing about this season for us...we have an early bye.

Don't let this win get to your heads. It's 1 of 16. I said that before the game back in August. If the Vikes would've won, I would've taken the same approach. All this means right now...you have a one game lead on us (with head to head tie breaker) with 15 games remaining. Nothing more, nothing less.

Armyofderek 09-09-2010 11:07 PM

Though it wasn't well executed for either side, good game Saints fan. Good luck.

QBREES9 09-09-2010 11:12 PM

You too. Give Brett a second he'll be ok. Good Luck guys

personally, i think you should worry about being behind the pack more than us. same goes for us and the falcons.

breesfan27 09-09-2010 11:12 PM

I agree both teams looked a little rusty. Our D really needs to improve on stopping the run.

It was a very good game tonight. Good luck with the rest of the season.

saintsfan1976 09-09-2010 11:13 PM

Vikes4Favre - good post and thanks for the kudos.

Didn't know that we could've expected more from your offense considering Favre was on his couch 2 weeks ago. Right?

Good adjustments from both sides. I thought both teams played it safe.

Enuf said.

I'm sure there is plenty of disappointment from both sides as well.

Vikings10 09-09-2010 11:13 PM

The Vikings d looked amazing, especially considering the injuries we have. The Saints defense was good, but really it all came down to better coaching. The Vikings moved the ball very well right before the end of the half and scored that td. The Saints had trouble running in the first half. At halftime the coaches made adjustments and found a way to run and also shut the vikings o down. While Brad Childress decided to just let Favre make the plays. Kudos to the Saints staff and their defense.

vikeforlife you have some good smack cat. but i think you just can't swallow right now because you still believe the vikes should have won, but i can come back right at you and say we really should have won by 28. and i can say that the vikes will fall apart ah by game 4 and chilli will be sent to tahitti, lol just kiddin cat good luck the rest of the way.

spkb25 09-09-2010 11:14 PM

The Vikings are still a good team- but what should scare the Vikes is how we ran it right up the gut all second half

OldMaid 09-09-2010 11:18 PM

The game could have been a w for either team. Saints offense was not at their best. Sp.teams Hartely hooked two fg's. Saints defense won it. This Saints win was not pretty.
The Playoffs are too far for any team , fan, critics to talk about.
I am glad, relieved actually, that the Saints won this game against the Vikings because of the bad press about the NFC Champ game.

It's not that we had trouble in the first half. We just didn't run the ball in period in the first half.

thank you sf1076 for clearing that up. 3 carries

strato 09-10-2010 01:11 AM

We looked rusty..the vikes looked overmatched..our O-Line dominated their Vaunted D-line...should have been a blowout

Why should it have been a blow out? The Vikings d was very good besides that opening drive. And our o-line was very good as well. I don't get where you get this blowout from.

Because Payton realized it wasn't working and they need to make adjustments, meaning you did have trouble.

|Mitch| 09-10-2010 10:42 AM

we made adjustments and won, you needed adjustments didn't make them and lost

END OF STORY

Ya I'm not so sure. I mean you're ypc was only 4.0 (that's not counting Brees' kneels). Nothing that spectacular. They'll play better next week.

If we run the ball in the first half and our recievers hold onto the ball...im thinking 24 to 9 at the least...oh and our kicker makes those kicks ..30 to 9..hmmm blowout..lol

ViQueens have Miami next week, good luck on that rush D being any better.

Okay if our line holds up on the pat, Chilly makes adjustments. Favre doesn't misfire on several passes. Our receivers catch passes. Our d-line gets pressure, it would have been a blowout. I don't see your point. Those things didn't happen. Your receivers did have drops. Your kicker did misfire two field goals. And you didn't run the ball because Payton was very smart and realize it wasn't going to work.

My guess is the Vikings get an early lead so the Dolphins won't be running a ton. Thanks though.

|Mitch| 09-10-2010 10:54 AM

You think you will get an early lead with how Favre is playing?? seriously?

He had 2 tds last year in week 2. Everyone knew he was going to play like that. No surprise at all really.

Pete 09-10-2010 11:05 AM

It's all over but the crying!

SapperSaint 09-10-2010 11:09 AM

Vikings10,

I think you are trying to start an arguement here. Just looking to start trouble.

For you to say the Vikings defense look awesome and ours looked so-so (not your exact words, but thats pretty much what you are saying), makes me question if you watched the game at all. I am not going to rub the "W" in your face; however, our Oline, for the most part, controled Minn's D-line. As far as our Defense goes...9 points scored on and 1 takeaway.

I don't mind talking with any other fans from other teams. But when you purposefully try and start crap, I have no interest in talking football with you.

Why do discussion always have to be viewed as arguments? I never said your defense looked so-so. Your passing defense was amazing, especially considering you didn't really put too much pressure on favre. Your d-line didn't do much. It's the truth. And our d-line was awful for the most part. Uninspired really, which is really disappointing. I don't see how I'm trying to start anything. I'm just discussing.

SmashMouth 09-10-2010 11:37 AM

It's the first game fellahs.... chill out .... Miami ain't no gimme for y'all... nor is SF for us.

I had a grate time as usal in N.O. and at the game I thought it was a great defensive game We will be back for the Carolina game and the Steelers game always can't wait to get back to N.O. and our Home The Dome.

Pete 09-12-2010 02:11 AM

DRsaints 09-12-2010 09:17 AM

Yeah Brett will be fine. He just has rust as did both teams for the first game of the season. That'll improve for week 2. You guys are right about both defenses, I think. They both seemed pretty solid, and I was definitely impressed from what I saw from the Saints. I guess we'll find out more about both teams in week 2 though.

Very classy posts Vikes fans we appreciate it. As far as our run D, whenever you hold AP to under 100 yds I consider that a good performance. For as many possesions as both tems had due to the 3 and outs, I thought both D's played great.
