After winning their season opener on Thursday night, the New Orleans Saints now have an 11-day break before their Monday night game at the San Francisco 49ers. Coach Sean Payton said Friday they'll treat it as a sort of bonus "bye week."

Then they'll have Wednesday off and begin their usual practice routine on Thursday. "It can be a plus (to get rested and healthy), yet at this early in the season you don't want it to be something that maybe creates any rust. But I think they'll handle it well," Payton said. "It's just one of the challenges. Look, four years ago, that schedule came out and every game was at one o'clock or 12 noon, except for the one Monday night re-opening, and that was kind of our one little 'gimme.' And when you have success, then you play Thursday, Monday, Monday, Sunday, Thanksgiving Day. But, hey, we adjust to that. And I think we're pretty good with that. And that's kind of where we wanted to be." Unfortunately there won't be any media access until Thursday. So after players talk this afternoon, be prepared for a little drought. It ought to do them good having extra time to rest up after a grueling TC.
