Denver signs tackle P.J. Alexander off New Orleans' practice
Denver also will be without starting left tackle Ephraim Salaam for at least two games due to knee surgery, an injury that prompted the team to sign tackle P.J. Alexander off New Orleans' practice squad on Tuesday.
This is at the end of an article that talks about Beuerlien's pinkie injury http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1643600 Do we get any compensation for this, and exactly how does the whole process work? |

It doesn\'t happen too often because you have to open a roster spot, and keep that player for 3 weeks.
Most players on a practice squad are developmental types and are no better than most teams 53 man roster. A practice squad player from another team has to learn a new system. It usually only happens when a team loses more than 1 player at the same position and need emergency depth. Or when a team places somebody on IR for the season and there\'s a particular player they\'ve had their eyes on for a while and we feel its worth a 3 week roster spot. |
