I'm guilty.

I will be the first to admit that I was a fan that was extremely overconfident about this game. I called that it would be a blowout. I thought the Saints were going to win this game by at least two or three scores. I even predicted a 34-13 victory. I was still on Cloud 9 from the Saints Super Bowl Victory from last season. The 49ers did everything in their power to bring me back down to Earth over the four-and-a-half hours.

I will say that I have seen myself become one of those cocky fans that people become when their team wins it all. My trash-talking has increased against fans of other teams. Tonight's game made me realize that I was losing respect for every single team and that no one in the NFL could touch the Saints. My mentality was still very much in sync with last season when they were blowing teams out of the water. I felt like that is how every game should be. I should have known better.

It is definitely true what people have been saying since winning the Lombardi. Our boys have a huge target on their backs and they will definitely get the best from every opponent they face this season. No matter how bad their team looks on paper or how badly they looked the week before, teams are going to be bringing their A-game against the Saints. They want to play the role David and slay Goliath.

A win is a win, but I hope the Saints have taken this game as a slap in the face. I hope a lot of Saints fans take it the same exact way. I know I sure did.

But P.S.--Drew Brees just proved why he is the best effin' quarterback in the NFL. Do NOT give that man a minute on the clock with two timeouts. He will make you pay.

Yeah , and hey, the 9'ers are a lot better than I thought.

This is exactly what I said in chat minutes before the game started. I think it made people think...

Quote:

09-20, 07:12pm Halo - It's a potential setup game, and because of parity in the NFL, this is a game lots of teams would or could lose. If they win, the Saints could be dominant again this year. If they lose, well they are just in the middle of the pack with other NFL teams. Just an objective opinion.
But I know the feeling.

BOLTS4LIFE 09-21-2010 12:33 AM

I think everybody felt that way... and it certainly looked like it was going to end up that way after the safety and first touchdown.

I said before the game it would be close (http://blackandgold.com/saints/28986...y-texan-3.html) and I'm not at all surprised that it was. The 49ers are building a good team but havn't gotten over the hump just yet. Smith look slike an improving QB and they have a good Rb and som targets to throw to. And Patrick Willis...what an absolute stud of a LB. It was nice to se the Saints D starting to create turnovers again but offence needs to get back on track.

DRsaints 09-21-2010 01:53 AM

I agree. I really thought it would be a blowout too, especially after we went up 9-0. But the 49ers hung tough. I gotta tip my hat to em. I'm just glad we pulled out the win.

You guys are amateurs compared to my trepidation about this game. We haven't converted a turnover for a td since the cards game. 5 turnovers 1 fg. Not any good. Stops drives, but Bo sense that this team knows how to grind their boots into their opponents neck. Strange playcalling, too much freelancing, and poor tackling. And where's that all century line??? 3 and 4 men rushes disrupting the passing game, as well as no push at point of attack. Stop believing your press and get back into the game

31-13

Under normal circumstances, the Saints would have blown the 49ers out,
considering the turnover ratio. The 49ers actually lucked out with the windy conditions, as this played into their favor. That wind took the vertical passing game away from Brees, had to settle for a lot of dump offs. Of course the 49ers defense did come to play and did a great job stuffing the Saints running game. Alex Smith playing like a all pro was definitely unexpected.

I was worried about the 49ers D.

I didn't expect it to be a blow out but I didn't think it was going to be that close either.

breesfan27 09-21-2010 09:20 PM

I'm not gonna lie, I was over confident. I was for sure we would have at least a 10 pt lead on them, judging from the way they played week 1.

me too.
