The New Orleans Saints’ “Monday Night Football” victory over the San Francisco 49ers drew 15.1 million viewers nationally, and scored a predictably huge combined local rating on NBC affiliate WDSU-Channel 6 and ESPN.

Michael DeMocker/The Times-Picayune
Saints kicker Garrett Hartley hits a 37-yard field goal as time expires to win the game between the Saints and 49ers at Candlestick Park on Monday, September 20, 2010.
WDSU won a 45.7 rating for the game and ESPN a 19.5 for a combined total of 65.2, according to ratings compiled by Nielsen and distributed by ESPN.

Each local Nielsen rating point represents 1 percent of local households, or about 6,340 households per point, so the game was viewed in more than 413,000 local homes.
The rating total fell short of the combined number (66.7) scored by the November 30 Saints-New England Patriots “Monday Night Football” matchup, believed by local ratings observers to be the largest audience for a single scheduled TV event ever broadcast in New Orleans, albeit split between two signals.
The CBS broadcast of the Saints’ Super Bowl victory drew a 57.3 rating on WWL-Channel 4.
The local single-station Saints-game ratings leader, with a 64.3 rating, is Fox affiliate WVUE-Channel 8’s broadcast of the Saints-Minnesota Vikings NFC Championship game.
The season-opening NBC game between the Saints and Minnesota Vikings drew 27.5 million viewers.
