New Orleans Saints will try out kicker Kris Brown on Tuesday
The New Orleans Saints will bring in veteran kicker Kris Brown for a tryout Tuesday, along with veteran John Carney, according to a league source.
Brown, 33, was released by the Houston Texans earlier this month after spending eight seasons with the Texans -- the entire franchise's history. He also began his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1999-2001. He has made 252 of 326 field goals in his career (77 percent). He was 21 of 32 last season for the lowest percentage of his career (65.6). Brown made 4 of 5 field-goal attempts during the preseason, missing only a 56-yard attempt, before losing out to fellow veteran Neil Rackers in a hotly-contested preseason battle. Reportedly, Rackers won the job because of his better leg strength on kickoffs, which wouldn't be an issue in New Orleans since punter Thomas Morstead can kick off. Brown was actually placed on injured reserve temporarily before being released from Houston with an injury settlement, because he was kicking through a case of plantar fasciitis in his right foot. But the injury didn't slow him down in the preseason and is not expected to be an issue anymore. |

he had a lousy 2009, but before that he was solid.
I wonder what happened in 2009 for such a huge dropoff? |

I have had this in my foot. It hurt like hell everytime I took a step. Eventually a steroid injection into the heel area of the foot did the trick, but that wasn't much fun either, especially when the needle caught against the bone. It's been ok for the last couple of years now, so hopefully I won't have to go through that again!

I'm not ready to give up on Hartley yet. But I see nothing wrong with bringing in a couple of other kickers.
